Newbie eBayer question

Hi, apologies because this is probably a bit of a basic question but I'm new to eBay and trying to understand how it works :-)

I've sold something & dispatched it via Royal Mail (without using eBay print dispatch label function, I just wrote the address myself and posted it).  I marked it as Dispatched in eBay and I've had confirmation from the buyer that they've received it, but how do I actually get it to show as Delivered in my eBay account...?  Is it something I have to do or the buyer?

Thanks very much for any guidance!

Marmot

You don't need it to show as delivered unless you  are having funds held. Whilst all my parcels have the ability to show as delivered none of my large letters have- so they all just show as dispatched.

Incidentally if you buy your label on Ebay or RM a small parcel is 50p cheaper - although you still do need to get proof of posting at a post office or mail centre.

You will have to upload the Royal Mail tracking number for it to show as delivered.

Great, thank you.  I don't have a printer at the moment so I think I'm stuck with doing the labels myself I guess...  If you do do it that way though you print the label at home, then take the post office and request proof of postage then?

If you are happy with Royal Mail collecting then they will bring a label. Collection is free until the end of the year:

    https://send.royalmail.com/

If you have more than 1 parcel personally I’d take the labels from the postie and stick them on each parcel myself (to save the wrong labels going on the wrong parcel).

I think there is a limit of 5 parcels being collected per day and they collect at whatever time your post would typically be delivered.

After collection you’ll get an email which acts as proof of posting, annoyingly that email doesn’t include the address the parcel is going to, a note of the parcel ID for each eBay order would be wise :)

They can collect from a safe place but if they do and bring the labels for more than 1 parcel bear in mind the potential for error with labels getting mixed up.

If you can't do collection (perhaps if you're not at home when your postie comes) there are services where you can print the label at the service point - I've not taken real note of whether that's possible at Post Offices or only RM Customer Service Points, but probably something worth investigating if it would save you 50p for each parcel.

Label printing is only at RM Customer Service points, and it's not available for every single service.

I just write the address on, (you don't need to put the random eBay stuff they add to the address),  and take it to the PO and get a free certificate of posting and pay for the postage.

Which is what the OP was doing and which is absolutely fine. I only mentioned online postage due to the savings (in true MSE style). One day last week I had 12 parcels to go and by printing online I saved £6 , imagine the savings over a month or a year.

Great, thanks for all the responses.  I might look into the collection service too where they deliver the labels, sounds good :-)

Hi, me again with another eBay question... :-)

I dispatched something which wasn't delivered so a refund was issued to the buyer, but now 2+ weeks later the item has been delivered.  The buyer has said that I can bill them but I can't work out how to do that... when I search for how to do it it seems to suggest that I should be able to do a Send Invoice but I can't work out how to find that option!  Any help greatly appreciated!
