I have opened one with cynergy at 2.75% but they are unknown and it kind of makes me nervous to put all my money there. Probably irrational I know. I feel like the government wouldn't let Santander fail but would a smaller bank.Daliah said:Not a good show by Santander, even though some people (incl myself) could open their’s in a coupke of minutes. Why do you keep waiting though? Al Rayan and Gatehouse have better rates, and you can get 5% on £5k at Barclays.Cynergy are fine. It's the old Bank of Cyprus accounts, before they sold it to Cynergy back in 2018, though Bank of Cyprus itself has been around in one form or another since the 1950s.Been with them a good few years, have had some really good interest rates from them. You could do far worse. The Cynergy 2.75% is for Cynergy customers only, and in terms of true easy access, nothing else beats it interest wise (the Sainsbury's account is capped at three withdrawals at the higher rate, and 0.8% if you go over that).2 -
Thank you. I have just put the last of my money in the account so appreciate your comments. It will just take some getting used to but it does fill me with confidence you have been using them so long and they are okay.Neil_Jones said:housebuyer143 said:

The log in authentication is very good with cynergy.0 -
Same here. Opened the Santander esaver on 11 October but because I had an ISA with them 20 years ago I had to post off the change of details form together with proof of change of address.
Heard nothing since so rang them today. Yep...overwhelmed with people changing details from previously held accounts and can't tell me when it will be up and running online. The advisor said 50% of their calls are regarding delays in opening the account online. I had also deposited £1 as a tester and as that hasn't been returned to my bank account then I assume it's ok but am unwilling to deposit further until I have online access.
I may give up and open something else as rates are increasing weekly.0 -
That's exactly what happened to me. I had a closed account from a decade ago and my address didn't match my new address for obvious reasons and I had to send it all those forms. I was actually very sceptical they were going to open it once I asked for that information. So I signed up to cynergy at the same time just in case, glad I did now.LMS123 said:Same here. Ah, I had an isa with Santander at two different addresses over quite a few years, a few years ago! Probably that

My experience opening a 2.75% e-saver was ok when logged into online banking as a customer - got an 'OLA' ref email on completion. Minutes later it was opened and available in online banking.
However operating the account is arbitrary. My esaver has a single payee and is funded from the same account.
After doing 3 withdrawals, Santander have now blocked all payments.
The branch thing comes up occasionally - they do nothing but photocopy documents.
Its a bit worrying they are retaining information from A&L and Abbey national, probably illegal under GDPR.
If you have an OLA ref email, I'd put in a complaint saying Santander have lied to you when you got in touch saying staff could not access their own systems.housebuyer143 said:I applied for the ESaver on 13th Oct and got an email to say application had been received. I had no word from anyone since and called Santander on Thursday and they told me they could not look up application IDs and to assume its all being processed.

Thank you. Now you mention it. That's a really good point. Are they supposed to hold your data for 10 plus years? Is that allowed?quaybab said:My experience opening a 2.75% e-saver was ok when logged into online banking as a customer - got an 'OLA' ref email on completion. Initially when I called them they refuse to discuss any information with me because I didn't know my password from 10 years ago and therefore they couldn't verify it was me. They may be go down to the branch with my ID before they would give me any information such as what account I even had with them.
I could complain but I don't think I can be bothered. I'll just use my Cynergy account and should my Santander ever get set up, which I doubt I'll just ignore it.
Doesn't sound good that they blocked your account after three withdrawals.0 -
I finally got my 2 letters today with account codes. However I won't just blame Santander, as they were dated the 18th and were delivered with a few other letters. I reckon the royal mail have moved to weekly deliveries in my area...0
