I have a few thermometers, a portable thermostat and a few hydrometers with built in thermometers. They vary by 0.5-1 degree. 8 degrees difference seems excessive. Wouldn't you feel very cold if it was in fact only 8C in the evenings in the living room?0

I am 38% down on Oct last year and have done nothing different so looks purely down to outside temperature. The heating has been on, awful damp no sun weather but a bit warmer than last year.edit. Just checking my data and it is the lowest Oct use going back to 2015edit 2. Gone back further - lowest going back to 2009 !2

I'm wondering when it'll turn "cold" - for me it's still warm, so no heating on yet (was 21deg sunny outsider beer garden yesterday with a cider or three - crazy in late October!).Normally when it gets colder I put cheapo long johns on and wear 2 jumpers - that normally extends the "no heating" by a few weeks but there's always a tipping point when I have to "click the heating on" for the first time...I'm a low-ish user around 3000kwh gas and 2000 elec0

I've been using a radiator brush to ensure dust build-up isn't reducing efficiency, can't do any harm!

our cats would LOVE that ;DAlmost everything will work again if you unplug it for a few minutes, including you. Anne Lamott
It's amazing how those with a can-do attitude and willingness to 'pitch in and work' get all the luck, isn't it?
Please consider buying some pet food and giving it to your local food bank collection or animal charity. Animals aren't to blame for the cost of living crisis.0 -

Without making any major changes I have used 45% less gas this October compared to last year so any reduction has to be primarily due to the unseasonably warm weather. It is also worth noting that this October has been the sunniest since 2011 for my solar panels.
Last few years October gas usage (CH & HW):
2022: 214 kWh
2021: 392 kWh
2020: 569 kWh
2019: 592 kWh
2018: 480 kWh
2017: 470 kWh
2016: 552 kWh4 -
Interesting figures Green Hornet, coincidentally from my records for this house (3 bed detached in Lancashire) my October usage shows very similar proportionate figures since 2016 but in each year about double yours. What sort of property do you have out of interest?0
