Just out of interest, how much is left in the estate once the grandchildren etc have been given their £2k each?

I was presuming the sister had taken things for safekeeping, but as you say if they’ve already been gifted then that’s different.
It’s not unusual for jewelry to go down the female side of the family.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

The jewellery has not been given to the sister - she says she has it for safekeeping. The album also has not been given to anyone.  Their family hasn't ever specified that jewellery should go to the female side and there are a few comments to make about this.  The mother gave my husband her engagement ring to propose to me with (nearly 35 years ago).  This caused such furore with his sister that I gave it back.  This is before I had children and now I have a daughter and a granddaughter so jewell my husband may get will go to the two of them, in turn.  We definitely do NOT expect to get this ring back, nor would we even ask for it however some of the other jewellery I have seen tags on it from one of the grandson's fiance who never even met the woman.  I definitely think my daughter should get to choose what she'd like before people who aren't even related.  BTW none of the jewellery has much monetary value - I would say less than £100 for any couple of pieces and much less for everything else.

I would estimate about £50,000 plus the sale of the house that may be £200,000.
As for the album and the jewellery they are sentimental value only.  This certainly isn't a greed or money issue as the only things in dispute are the album and some trinkets of jewellery.  My husband doesn't even mind the extra 2 great grandchildren getting a £2,000 gift as long as the other things are distributed evenly and the costs of having the album are also equally divided - whether this is between 3 of the siblings if the other brother doesn't agree - I wouldn't blame him.

Just a thought, but if you're considering gifting £2000 to the unnamed great gc, what will you do if there are more?

These 2 great grandchildren were born before he died, just didn't get put in the will.  Any more children who are born after this won't get anything as the will should (hopefully) be done and dusted by then.

In that case, all your husband needs to do is divide the estate up as the will determines, and the siblings who agree can then chip in to give the 2 unnamed great grandchildren £2k each - that only equates to £1333 each. Id also have the photo album reproduced for each sibling and take the cost of doing so out of the estate too. Personally, I think the eldest sibling should get the original.
