Flight cancelled

I wonder if anyone can advise me . I recently had my flight from USA to Manchester direct cancelled due to a technical fault onboard . They put me on a replacement flight back to Heathrow which was delayed by 2.5 hours . Then a wait whilst they transferred myself and other passengers to road transport back to Manchester airport arriving there A total of 8.5 hours later than scheduled . I emailed a complaint to the airline and all I was given was a few air miles which are virtually useless , plus the offer to refund a relatives car park fees who’d been waiting to pick me up , but only if he could prove  with a receipt .. the airline have said I was only 2.5 hours delayed BUT  the way I see it is my time should be calculated on the origin arrival destination of Manchester NOT London .
