Vanquis App

Is anyone else becoming hugely frustrated by Vanquis? Their app stopped working for me recently, and in spite of my complaint they don't yet appear to have a fix.
Now I can't even access my statements from the desktop site. So annoying!

The app is working perfectly well for me - have you tried uninstalling it and reinstalling it?
(Is the problem related to your phone? What model and operating system do you have running on it?)0 -
The app is working perfectly well for me too, though I do have another gripe with Vanquis.0

I experienced glitches on the app about a week ago but it's fine now.

I have a Galaxy S7 Edge, with Android 8.0.0
I'm not about to let my choice of credit card dictate my choice of mobile phone.
I originally uninstalled and reinstalled. Then I complained. They told me there was an update that should solve it. So then I updated with no success. Then I uninstalled and reinstalled again. Still no success.
My statements have at least reappeared on the website.
However, while they have been being ineffectual, I have qualified for a cashback credit card, so they will be losing my business as a result of not supporting my older phone and OS. That's how capitalism works.Save £12k in 2025 #33 £2531.77/£5000 (If this carries on I might have to up my target!)

I have an iPhone 6s (dinosaur phone) and iOS 13.4.1 so old software and the app works fine for me.If you believe you can, you will. If you believe you can't, you won't.

Apple stop support after 6 years, it now no longer has support - 15.4 is the last version you can get but so long as Vanquis don't go past that you will be ok.That is irrelevant though as OP is on Android - Samsung stopped support for the S7 in spring 2020 though did a couple of non-security patches after. It is logical, as I said, that Vanquis don't want to risk data loss by allowing the app to run on insecure OS - same as say any Apple owner who cannot get past 12.3 which I think is anything before the 5S0

Technology marches on, and banks are making their apps more and more sophisticated and secure to try and block the scammers and keep your money safe (Mostly as they are losing too much and having to pay out too many claims).
I had a feeling it was your phone that was the challenge rather than the app - and as it's now relatively old tech in terms of its operating system, and no longer being updated, I'm sure it won't be long before your new credit card stops working as well.
It would be better if the phone manufacturers could support their models with updates a little longer than they do, but I'm sure they'll say there are technical reasons in terms of processors and other gubbins inside the phone that mean that beyond a certain point, for financial management, they'll become a useless brick.
To be fair - I'd want to make sure my accounts were well protected to the best they could possibly be - so by not moving forward with the tech, you'll be exposing yourself to greater risk, but only you can decide whether you're happy to take that risk for any existing financial products that are compatible with your handset.
As long as you keep in mind that it's the phone rather than the app that's the issue - as each app stops working, at least you'll now have an understanding as to why.1 -

Even a savvy money saver who doesn't care to keep getting new phones only really needs to change every 4-6 years by which time anyway the battery will probably be screwed, potentially screen damaged etc. For most people, that is more than enough time to use their phone - an iPhone SE is £449 so someone with an iPhone 6S as mentioned in this thread has had 6 years to save up about £75 a year to get a model launched this year that will last them another 6 or so years. OP with the S7 could get a certified refurb S9 from Samsung for £249 or the S20 FE for £499 or various othes like the A13 or m13 for under £170Rest of your post I fully agree with0 -
I replaced the battery in my IPhone 6s last month for £16.50 (inc tools and p&p) myself, with a little time and patience. The phone runs perfectly and all of my usual critical apps work without a problem. Until these apps become unsupported I shall continue to utilise the phone.
I have not updated the iOS purely because of a long-standing argument with Apple over their ridiculous policy about only being able to download and install iOS versions via Wi-Fi rather than 4g mobile network. They claim it is to do with the security of the network, yet I am able to download and login in to financial institutions and search/input and send varying packets of personal data across the 4g network without a hitch. I don’t buy it personally. If you believe you can, you will. If you believe you can't, you won't.
