We were actually down at Gosport, weekend before last, and saw the aircraft carriers @Sarahwithlove.  I was born in Portsmouth & lived in Gosport till 1987. My dad still lives in Lee & my sister nearby. We'd been down to do some DIY for my dad. Love going down there. I really miss the sea, living in the Midlands.

Small world Gosport is my home town, I do love living by the sea but sometimes I do take it for granted. Always feel much better after a walk along waterfront. Looking out at the sea can make everything seem OK again.

I think I took it for granted when I lived there. If I was there now, we would be down Gosport harbour or Stokes bay or Lee, every day.

    Following your diary now. X

  • Looks like there are a few of us Pompey locals on here. I agree a walk along the front is definitely good for you and I love the view over to the Island. I can see the sea from some of the offices and corridors where I work and quite often go to look at the view for a few minutes during the day if I’m having a bad day. It always helps!  Have a lovely time on the Isle of Wight xx
slowly working towards being MF one small over payment at a time :T

I had friends down for the weekend with their kids and it's really made me appreciate it again. I used to walk down stokes bay every day but parking permit became too expensive and during school holidays free parking is hard to get a space

  • Afternoon all. Was a strange weekend with some odd family stuff going on (DH's side), so nice to be back to normal.

Made an extra OP on mortgage today, to round it down to a nice figure again. Now owing £13,700. Its so nice to see it going down quickly now at last. At the start of the year we owed £20K, so its really looking good now. Interest rate goes down from end of this month, meaning I can make even more OPs as they have emailed to say they are lowering our payment.  I'd have been quite happy for them to keep it as it is, we have told them many times we are trying to pay it off quicker, but they keep recalculating it and lowering it.....and I just keep paying more extra payments....lol.  I am determined to get it paid off earlier and not just pay less interest.

Other money saving things, got a few orange sticker items in C00P yesterday. Seems to be a good time to go, just after 3pm on a Sunday.
Been using up stuff from freezer/cupboard so spent very little last week on groceries, and looks like I won't have to spend too much this week. This is week 3 of our 4 week budget period.  We did however spend more on petrol than anticipated as had to visit in-laws.  Also MIL gave me a nice tin of red salmon that they wouldn't use and I love salmon, so a good win there.

Decided I want to start crocheting, I used to be able to do basic crochet when I was a teenager, but seem to have forgotten. There is a woman on VVH on FB who teaches it. So I asked MIL, as I know she used to be a crafter and hoards stuff and lo & behold she had loads of crochet hooks, so kindly gifted me a few, as she won't use them any more. Not sure what I want to make, just think it might be relaxing, and I still have loads of wool left over from knitting DG3s blanket.

Had quite a few tomatoes at last from the garden and there is a nice small courgette waiting for me to pick for tonight.  Need to get out there this week and do some tidying and deciding what to move where and see if I can fit a tiny greenhouse in for next year. Also got some salad leaf seeds to sow that say I can put them in up to end of Sept, so will give those a go, and some radishes. Also want to peg some strawberry runners in to make a couple more new plants.

Off to L!d! tomorrow, on my way to my reiki session,  so hoping for some bargains there. Last week I had 2 free bakery items and a free bag of snacks.  Might pop into Mr M on the way home as they often have very cheap bread reductions and I can stock the freezer a bit.

Started a 30 day reset with my online exercise group this month.  All about giving yourself targets and seeing how you can improve health and fitness. Number of steps, how much water you drink, increasing protein, doing weights and squats every day, getting more sleep etc etc.  So hoping that brings good results, although I have failed on the "No cakes" bit today. oops

Anyway, need to tidy up, do a quick exercise routine and get the dinner on. Chilli and rice tonight and left overs will be put on a jacket spud tomorrow.
    Have a good evening everyone.

Sounds like Portsmouth is definitely an epi-centre for a few MSE'rs.   Apart from going there to catch the ferry to IoW we do visit a few times a year as we can go straight down the A3 and it takes us less than an hour and a half.    My friend has a rental property in Admiralty Quarter and we can occasionally stay there in between tenancies.

We will be based near Sandown for our holiday.  We've been there a few times and it suits us perfectly.

I think crochet is easier than knitting and it's definitely much easier to correct any mistakes!  I like to have a blanket project on the go but although I call them "use it up blankets" I tend to buy some new balls of wool so it's like a perpetual stash of yarn

have a look at Attic24's website her instructions are really clear and she has some nice designs for inspiration.

  • Sandown is nice, good beaches! Can get very busy though in peak tourist season.
