You lot were wrong. I got a CCJ and they settled.
Was it a defended hearing or did they not defend and you got judgement by default? As anyone can win at small claims if the case is not defended.

What was wrong about the advice you received?
It was garbage, stating I needed to look at the small print and "ain't nuffink that can be done".

If they could have defended it, they would have done. But they didn't have a leg to stand on. They have a legal department, by the way. They are the ones who contacted me to pay me the full amount, including the small claims court cost and interest. If they wanted to defend the case, I would have answered them.
They were expecting me to give up. This is why it went to the small claims court in the first place.
If they hadn't settled for the full amount after I got the CCJ, I would have enforced the CCJ against them, and taken it all the way. That would have ended costing them a whole lot more, in the end.

I cannot claim I haven't learned anything. I am probably better educated than a typical Wowcher customer and have nothing against Martin Lewis's forum or brand or anything, but I should probably rely on my inner voice (which has a 1990s law degree) rather than seeking answers on all sorts of topics here. For plumbing, electrical, etc. then this forum is great.
  • If you want proper legal advice, you should pay for it, rather than going down the cheap route (again).

Then why did you ask the opinion of ransom posters on a forum?  Surely, with your knowledge you had no need to do that.

Wow, the jealousy and waves of disappointment I'm getting here are quite a surprise.

You would have preferred if I'd been ripped off successfully, in this instance. I get it. You're bitter.

You lot don't even know what a law degree is. It's just a degree in the law of England and Wales. People have always been resentful of lawyers though. I shouldn't be surprised. Having a law degree has always been like owning a Renault 25 in the 80s.

You have made assumptions about me ("I can see why you're not practising law") as if my success in this matter against Wowcher is evidence of incompetency... I suggest you think again. You don't know anything about me. Plus, I succeeded and you were wrong. Facts don't care about your feelings.

You are right about one thing though: I shouldn't have asked you. My knowledge is, indeed, greater than yours. That's 3 years of study in something. Are you surprised? I quoted legislation in my claim. I ordered my arguments and detailed the basis of claim in a manner you most likely couldn't do. All of these things mean I am more competent than you.

While the bitter remarks may offer you the solace of some temporary relief, I will give you none. The fact is, I got my money back, plus interest plus the cost of making the claim. It's also a fact that I now know the tactics Wowcher uses to fob off people. Therefore, if someone reading this has a problem with Wowcher in the future, they can feel free to private message me.  Alternatively, listen to these wannabe internet "experts", armchair generals, etc.
