Hi,

I got an email from Virgin Media saying my £39 broadband was going up to £63 after Nov 3rd, after the 18 month "discount" ends.

So I thought No problem. I will start a new contract and new "discount". But they say they want £59.00 a month even though new customers only pay £34.

So I am leaving VM.

But they say I have to give 30 days notice, and yet I only got 14 days notice of their extortionate renewal prices.

I know I could haggle and get lower. But I doubt they will give me a deal as good as new customers get, or what I got last time, so I plan to upgrade my separate EE mobile broadband with a decent router off Amazon and give up home broadband.

Will VM charge me £63 for the last month?

Or will they charge me a different cancellation fee?

I only found out about their high costs today, so I don't have 30 days notice to cancel. So how can that be fair?

If I don't use my Virgin service after Nov 3rd when my 18 month contract ends, then they will be charging me for something I don't have.

I'm asking here first because Virgin Media lied to me last time, so I can't trust them.

Thank you

When your 18 month deal ends you roll onto out of contract rates.  Aka more expensive.  This is a rolling 30 day contract.  You can go anytime and you get a pro-rata refund once your notice has been served.

This will have the effect of effectively paying for a month you only partly use, but you'll get that back.  So for math's sake let's say you pay £30 a month and you leave on the 15th of Smarch ;) You have already paid £30 on the 1st of Smarch so you get (all other things being equal) a pro-rata refund of £15 for the unused days of Smarch.

This is normal because you pay in advance for broadband/internet to all companies.

You have to keep an eye on your end of contract date and time the cancellation/upgrade accordingly.
Unfortunately, you agreed to the T&Cs when you signed up, so you will have to pay that extra month's from cancellation.

They lied to you last time and yet you went back? Wow.

Just because you don't use the service doesn't mean they're not supplying it BTW.
