Where are you in the world @poppystar? If you happen to be nearby, I'd be happy to help, im sure other forumites would be willing to too.
I can as well, even just to put it outside for council collection.

On a more serious point, this bed may last you up to 10 years, even longer in some cases. Look at some of the more expensive ones - if you split it over the nights you’ll use it they can become very good value for money as you don’t need to replace so often. I do appreciate that they are expensive though.

Some of the big charities that sell furniture (and even some smaller and local) will collect and dismantle but might be unlikely to take a used mattress. However they might agree to put it outside for you and if you could coordinate a local authority collection - that could be an option. Or if the charity took the bed and left the mattress the company that delivers the new bed would then take the old mattress.

I’ve donated before in this way to the British heart foundation and Sue Ryder. There are also smaller charities that would welcome furniture donations and some that help people with furniture. They usually always collect and dismantle for you.

When parent bought her new mattress, she told them that at 83 there was absolutely no chance that she would be able to bag the double mattress herself. They told her to leave it and they would do it when they got there. That may vary between companies and managers but there can be some flexibility.

Is the old bed a divan? if so, John Lewis include taking away the mattress and divan base in their mattress collection service. They also offer a bed assembly service and you just need to ensure the mattress is stripped of bedding

John Lewis were great for our mattress delivery too. They delivered to-room (twice, because the first time I managed to order the firm instead of the medium!) and the mattress is wonderful.
