Do you have a health condition? If so do you claim either PIP or DLA?

You have no idea whether the OP would have been entitled to working tax credits!

OP can you look at another part time job?

you say "british gas say only vouchers for electric"

does this mean you don't pay/use any electric?  I'm not sure how that's possible.
I presume yjr OP has a pre payment meter, and the vouchers are the 400 that everyone is getting

Would have been eligible for Working Tax Credit but not have been entitled to anything in the same way OP is eligible for UC but not entitled to UC due to earnings being received.
Information I post is for England unless otherwise stated. Some rules may be different in other parts of UK.

The vouchers/credit/rebate are applied to electricity bills because  while 99% of people have mains electric, not everyone has gas.

Asking each customer which bill they wanted the credit to be applied to would have been too costly and time consuming.

But, even in the cases of low electric/high gas users, surely applying the credit to the electric account frees up the money that would have been used for electricity to pay for other things - such as the gas bill?  Or am I missing something?

I cannot understand why Housing Benefit is not included in the £650 cost of living payment, have yet to find the answer.
think this is the reason which is no help to those who only claim housing benefit https://questions-statements.parliament.uk/written-questions/detail/2022-06-28/26876# .
