I cannot understand why Housing Benefit is not included in the £650 cost of living payment, have yet to find the answer.

    Ask your local MP to take up with Government.

    And ask your local Council Authority what support is available.  Apparently, Councils have been given money by central Government to help people, so you might want to speak to Council Benefits/welfare team.
    The comments I post are personal opinion. Always refer to official information sources before relying on internet forums. If you have a problem with any organisation, enter into their official complaints process at the earliest opportunity, as sometimes complaints have to be started within a certain time frame.

    My assumption is that it would have added a significant amount of complexity to administering the payments because HB is administered by local authorities and not by DWP.
    Information I post is for England unless otherwise stated. Some rules may be different in other parts of UK.
  • The councils administer it but, they have to provide the DWP with NI num of all claimants to claim the money so it is paid to council on our behalf, have tried MP etc still no joy.

    Housing benefit has nothing to do with DWP.

    Harsh answer but you wont find the answer, just speculation.  It isn’t on the list of means tested.

    Right or wrong, its the way it is.

    Maybe check whether you are eligible for any Universal credit. It will depend on your earnings. I'm assuming as you only work 18 hours a week that perhaps you have health conditions that prevent you from working more hours ? Sorry I've just seen that you have used a benefit checker. Do you get PIP ( disability benefit). If so even if working 18 hours you may be able to be assessed for work capability.
  • hi  i dont have a disability and find it hard getting a full time job although i keep looking,  . thankyou anyway

    UC is a means tested benefit so entitlement will depend on your circumstances. As you own your own home then you will not be able to claim for any help with the mortgage.
    This means if you're a single person your maximum UC entitlement will be £334.91/month. Working 18 hours per week will mean there's no entitlement to any UC. Any earnings received each month will reduce your UC by 55% so it will be reduced to zero with those earnings.

    @acs61
    you say "british gas say only vouchers for electric"

    does this mean you don't pay/use any electric?  I'm not sure how that's possible.
