hi we have moved to a property where there is no mains gas - we have no heating at present except plug in heaters and an immersion heater and got a quote for £4k for electric boiler. We can’t afford heat pumps and can’t get help as we work - do I get the electric boiler fitted or just continue to use my plug ins we can’t have oil as no access to put a tank in and lpg is a no go too - we don’t know what to do as I’ve been reading the horror stories about electric boiler costs TIA

An electric boiler is about the most expensive way you could think of to heat your home I believe.
Your 4k would be better spent in investing in some modern High Heat Retention Storage heaters - then get yourself onto an Economy 7 tariff. The immersion heater will also then run off the overnight rate electricity. (as will any other appliances you can run overnight, too).🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡

Do you own this property? Or rent?

Hi we own it0

Why not spend the £4K on a couple of wall split air conditioning units? Think of them as large fan heaters.
They work just as well for heating as cooling and being heat pump technology are maybe three times more efficient than an electric boiler.Do Money Saving sites make you buy more bargains - and spend more money?1 -
Is there any solar panels fitted to the property?0

If you are thinking about spending 4K on an electric boiler I would look into the grants available for heat pump systems, as a 5K grant + 4K of your cash should more than pay for the installation. If you most spend time in one room then an air con unit may be worthwhile to look into - they can do cooling in summer and heating in the winter and can be 3x more efficient than resistive based methods such as a typical plugin heater. If neither of those are any good then Economy 7 storage heaters are still better than an electric boiler.0

No there are no solar panels and to have a heat pump we are looking at another 4k for it to be fitted that’s as well as the 5k help. I’ve not heard of the air con units can anyone post a link to which ones to look at please0

You may save money by buying an electric boiler. But at the current price of electricity, trying to run the thing will bankrupt you.
If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.1 -

Or maybe a split system where you get 2 or 3 indoor units for one outdoor unit.Living the dream in the Austrian Alps.0 -
Perplexing. Does the property have pipes and rads for central heating? If so, what happened to the boiler? Also why is LPG not an option.
Electric boiler is economic madness.0
