Depositing foreign cash

Options
I have leftover foreign currency from a holiday. Due to our final hotel insisting on refunding for some issues in cash on the last day, I wasn't able to use this or deposit while in the country. Now back in the UK, is there any way of depositing the cash or converting it into some electronic form? I can then convert this to GBP via my bank account or Revolut account at mids potentially with a ~3% fee. In the region of £2000..

This is much better than the terrible rates I'm getting using the travel money buyback offers which do both (take the cash and convert to GBP).

Thanks!

What currency is it? You'd need a bank account in that currency

Turkish Lira - I have a Revolut in that ccy, but doesn't take cash deposits, only transfers / card payments in.

I hope you find some way to convert the cash to electronic money, but I do not know if this is possible. Just a warning: do not delay. Inflation in Turkey is very high so those lira will lose a lot of their money while you look for a solution. You might even try listing them on Ebay! Failing that, even the terrible buy-back rates are better than nothing.

If you have a UK bank account you can pay it in, but will still get a terrible exchange rate, often worse than using the High Street bureaus.  Otherwise I think your only option will be to accept the hit.

The most economical solution for everyone is likely to ask in a local Facebook group and offer to exchange at the rate listed on Google, cash for cash, in a public place.
