To be fair, that is also the official government position. They do not expect shortages in the UK. The national grid are only talking about blackouts in a worst case scenario.ChaunceyGardiner said:
Indeed. I was told that there was no gas shortage, that I was promoting asceticism, etc. They just weren’t having it.Spoonie_Turtle said:Oh my word. How the other half live!

There's a bit of a shortage, surely? Or there was until the past week or so. Isn't that why gas prices were so high, and we imported some from Australia?sienew said:

This means prices rise and some buyers are priced out of the market. These buyers typically haven't been in the UK or Europe; it's the less wealthy nations who have been unable to secure supplies. In the UK, because we're able to pay 400p a therm (roughly 8-10x what gas was selling for a couple of years ago), there's no shortage.N. If you can afford it then from a personal opinion seeing your Christmas lights would fill me with festive cheer.
As for the moral worry. Worth putting a collection box in front of your house to raise money for a foodbank.0 -
If it brings your community joy then go for it. But, I do worry about there being shortages0

Reports in the press about Russia plotting to sabotage the Langeled 5500mile gas pipe line from Norway to UK would make blackouts a certainty if it happened as UK only carry a few days gas stocks .ChristieJayne said:If it brings your community joy then go for it.
