Have you tried contacting one of the Czech consuls in the UK for advice on how to proceed?0

Yorkie006 as you've already established, opening an account is possible but only in person in Czechnia. As you say, the cost involved would almost wipe out the sum you're owed so it's not a practical option. But if you fancied a trip to the country at some point, it would be something you could do.Czechnia is also planning to join the Euro at some point. That could be a couple of years away but it could potentially make a difference; then again, it might make none, and anyway, that's way into the future.Would you happen to know anyone in Czechnia by any chance? If you do, you could go to the Czech embassy in the UK, get a power of attorney, and send it to you friend/ relative/ contact in Czechnia who could pick up the money for you and pay it or have it paid into your own account. If you don't know anyone, you could pay a professional a fee for doing this for you, but that may or may not be cost effective. It's still a potential solution in the absence of anything better.0

Thanks,
I'm not planning any trips abroad (or domestic) any time soon. I'm saving up for a house deposit so have no money to spend on holidays/non-essentials, plus with the cost of living going up, I'm trying to save as much money as possible in case energy bills go through the roof in spring.
I don't know anyone in Czechia so have no-one to ask for help. Hiring a profession is probably going to cost about the same as travel and no idea if the company would pay the money owed anyway (they have a funny way of doing things).
The rumours of Czechia joining Euro have been going round for years (Slovakia made the switch in 2008 or so I believe) but I don't think it's going to happen any time soon. The money I am owed has to be collected by April 2025 and it's very unlikely Czechia will adopt Euro by then.
Looks like I will have to write this money offThanks anyway.

You could ring a couple of "local" accountants in Czechnia and explain what's happened. They might be willing to pop into the bank and do the transaction for you. They might not ask much for doing this, but I don't know. The POA is something you could write yourself, just a short paragraph, get it stamped at the embassy, pay a few quid for their fee, and send it to the accountant abroad who could then take it to the branch, pick up the money and pay it into your account. Might be worth checking this option out. I can't think of anything else, but it might work out better than writing off the whole sum, depending on how much it is.
