Im doing ok thanks for asking - had my first reduced hours this week plus bank holidays will be 3 day week

No overpayments this month yet, boiler being serviced and car insurance due, so waiting to make sure nothing unexpected turns up

Will use topcashback for ins but they seem to be taking longer and longer to pay out

Glad the weather is picking up, need to do a bit of outdoor painting if weather stays good this weekend

Enjoy the long weekend and stay safe everyone

Well no over payments will be made this month - to be honest bit cheesed off with the problems with my overpayments being added to the account still

Ive insured my car (used cashback), boiler serviced, bought a new phone (not a posh one but Im not a big brand. lover), bought a couple of nice going out t-shirts

Got some monies outstanding in prolific (can only use phone now for some reason, so leaving it till it builds up a bit)  Sold a couple of items on vinted (again leaving this to build up),  Topcashback - again leaving it to build up. Everyone seems to be taking ages to clear outstanding amounts lately

My next wage will be the new amount for my 4 day wks - so less coming in, but I do feel happier already - made a point of using the additional day for doing things for me,

Going to give myself some slack - if I can afford to make overpayments I will, if I can't I can't - decided to stop worrying.  Im not giving up, just stopping for ever checking and re-checking figures

    Take care everyone

Fantastic decision for you skye.  It can become relentless, obsessing over every penny.  You will get there, but you may as well enjoy the journey, as well as your you day!

Have you sent a letter of complaint to the mortgage company yet about them not following your instructions?  It may focus their minds!

Money is the means to the end, not the end in itself. If you can have a better work life balance now, why wait?

Ok so ive had a break from reading posts and worrying that other people's mortgage journeys are going better than I can ever manage - ive got a grip again now and realised I can;t overpay what I don't have - so just do what can be done and be proud of my journey

My mortgage rate seems to be going up every month - 7.5% now - and rumours of another rise this month - er hello bank pls leave me alone!!!!

So today I sent £700 across from slush fund that I keep for any emergency that might crop up during a month - ive been adding my earned amounts to this account - vinted, prolific, cashback etc and will continue to add to this account until im happy sending larger amounts to mortgage so I can see a better result for my over payments

Mortgage stands @ £48,000 now - I would like to get to £40k before I retire

Im off next week and going to spend a couple of days sorting out out the attic ready for a car boot im planning on doing

    Take care everyone

Congrats on the payments Skye. And it is sad to read you feel you are not doing as well as others.  Letting yourself stop comparing and measuring yourself against others is the best policy.  There is always someone with a bigger income and fewer outgoings than you, so they can do well on their timeline, but we never know what is happening behind the scenes.  Be proud of what you have achieved and set yourself achievable goals, and more importantly, celebrate those successes.  Rome wasn't built in a day.  Whatever the circumstances, we all want the same thing, to be clear of the mortgage early.

From one SkyyeBlue to another :D

One of most favourite quotes is 'Comparison is the thief of joy', it's so so easy to get bogged down in other people's success and end up not being proud of your own super achievements.

You have got this! (and I promise I didn't steal your name! Skyye has been my gaming name for decades now)

Just a quick reminder of what you have achieved so far Skye.  Since you started paying the mortgage down in October, you have paid £6,500.  That is an excellent result in just 6 months!  Just keep in mind that you have made a big change to your income by reducing the number of days you work.  You are doing great.  I need to be more disciplined like you.  I need to restart with the surveys etc.  I just lost interest - it happens.  Spring is here and I should focus on income generation as well as reducing outgoings.  You are doing both, so keep it up!

Thanks guys your replies mean a lot

Ive had an appointment today with a financial adviser and he agrees that im doing well and to stop worrying about retirement and mortgage end dates - we can deal with that nearer the time

He was really encouraging and said just carry on and we dont know what rates will be next year so just do what I can and relax and don't spend my time over thinking things - see knew you guys knew what you were talking about
