£44 spent in Aldi yesterday and £4 on a local bakery TGTG bag. The Aldi shop was mainly veg and frozen stuff, along with toothpaste, vitamins, dishwasher tabs etc. The bakery bag was very useful for lunchboxes as always - sourdough loaf, 6 Wholemeal rolls, cheese straws, large croissant, sausage roll and a teacake.£51/500 left until the 26th (altho we are away for 3 days at the wkend so will try to make it last until the 30th).Books read 2023 - 49/758

Hello! Back to update you on what goodies we got from the TGTG box. I had never heard of these until joining this challenge so thank you to those who recommend them/ talk about them. After doing my initial research and trying a few I have found the place I like to get mine from and have decided to try to get two a month.
Todays box included 14 items/ packs for £3.09.
Included was;
A pack of two red peppers (chopped and popped into the freezer)
A packet of parsnips (chopped and popped into the freezer)
A pack of 4 red lady apples (perfect for lunchboxes this week)
A pack of 4 lemons
Two potted chives (🤷♀️)
A loaf of bread 800g
Three packs of four ciabatta rolls
A pack of four plain scones
A pack of 18 soft baps
A pack of 6 fingers rolls
A pack of 4 teacakes
My kids descended and grabbed some of the 18 pk for ham rolls (after their dinner 🤷♀️) and I ve kept some out for lunchboxes for tomorrow. I ve also saved the teacakes for tomorrow. The rest has gone into the freezers.
What do I do with chives? I don't think I ve ever cooked with them and it would be such a shame to just leave them and then throw them out. I'll try to repot them. I did this with some thyme though it's gone mouldy 🤷♀️Grocery Challenge 🍇🍈🍉🍊🍋🍌🍍

@Gettingmyshiztogether you are doing so well. you can chop chives up small and put them into fish cakes, ( tinned tuna, left over mash, chives and/ or onions, all mashed together, made into patties and rolled in breadcrumbs) these are lovely with sweet chilli sauce or try a quick potato salad ( small cooked waxy potatoes with chopped chives and a little mayonnaise stirred in.) in the summer you can plant them outside. I did that years ago and i have split them over the years so I now have 4 big plants. Not sure how to keep them through the winter though. Hope you enjoy them. I am sure there will be some more recipes from others.

Chives are just like tiny spring onions really - that sort of flavour. Lob them finely chopped into any dish that would benefit from a herby oniony flavour.🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡

Chives are lovely chopped up and mixed into buttery mashed potato.9

I buy chives every week. My favourite herb, they go in pasta dishes, egg mayo, potato salad, soups, mashed potatoes. They add a hint of onion.
Sounds like an excellent too good to go bag.

I like chives on top of jacket potatoes with butter and sour cream.9
