I *think* the gas reading of 3724 has just come from the meter. To convert to Kwh is 3274 X 11.2 = 41,708kwh
Which, is indeed, a shedload of gas for a 3 bed semi !0 -

You seem like a huge consumer of energy!Almost everything will work again if you unplug it for a few minutes, including you. Anne Lamott
It's amazing how those with a can-do attitude and willingness to 'pitch in and work' get all the luck, isn't it?

Thank you again, everyone, for the really helpful comments and feedback!
My takeaway so far is that I really need to get my facts straight! We have definitely made some assumptions, across the meter reads, and consumption, that are likely entirely incorrect on our part. For example, and I need to confirm with the missus when she gets back, I think those were indeed the meter readings, and we've incorrectly assumed they were KWh. As some of you have stated, if the conversion is correct, it appears we may well actually using an absolute shedload of gas! As to why that might be, given we literally only have a single, relatively new, boiler on a timer, that might be an entirely different story.
I'm definitely beginning to believe that EDF is not out to get us, that's for sure, and that they may be simply using the data they have at hand to predict our future costs.
So, my next actions will most certainly be to collate what we know, avoid assumptions, and see where we land. And we are absolutely going to take regular meter readings from now on, and are trying to get on the waiting list for a smart meter!9 -
once you work out your actual usage then the clever people on here will have some suggestions for tracking down where it's going (testing for leaks and faulty meters and gas guzzlers. that kind of thing).Almost everything will work again if you unplug it for a few minutes, including you. "They don't look particularly ludicrous."
Are you joking mate? £850 is my entire rent! (3 bed semi).
My energy bills are only just over £100 a month (used, not DD). Octopus SVT. Then again I only use 10 units of gas a month, and some people have their heating on full blast all day, every day. (I switch mine on / off manually. Try that rather than a timer. Also no need to tumble dry every load of washing. I only use mine 1.5h for towels once a week).
I'm a family of two though, but still adding 2 more shouldn't increase my usage by over 8x..0 -
"They don't look particularly ludicrous."If the OP is in arrears with their use (as many people do get by not paying enough to begin with and having to catch up) and the heating is up high then they could easily be at that figure.

hence, not ludicrus. My energy bills are only just over £100 a month (used, not DD). Octopus SVT. That is 2-3 times the normal for someone with non-electric heating but electric cooker. And about 3-4 times the level if the cooker is gas as well.
I'm a family of two though, but still adding 2 more shouldn't increase my usage by over 8x..
Your level of use may not be typical. Their level of use may not be typical. The electricity use certainly suggests it not that efficient.

As you say, you don’t use a lot, but that doesn’t mean there might not be people who use a lot more.2 -
40,000kWh of gas!!
Blimey what are you heating?
7000kWh of electric is also a massive amount.
Are you powering a whole street!!!!0 -
