I don't think you have any rights.
If your employer values you then they should be open to considering flexibility especially as you appear to work on-site for 5 days a week.
Bottom line is to try to work out something with your employer that meets their needs as well as your colleagues and yours.
If that cannot be done and this pushes the commute over a threshold for you then look for another job nearer to home or one with hybrid working or fully remote.
Moving house is only an option I'd suggest if either the career is long term and fantastic or it coincides with other reasons e.g. parents, children, partners job etc. It's a big risk and cost to move house for one job alone as there are so many other factors around that decision - extended family, partners job, kids schools, social activities, friends etc.

we don't know what you do, but most people I know in offices don't have to work on site all the time, so another job is an option to consider.

How far are they actually moving?  If it's only adding 20 minutes to travel time it can't be very far, so it's highly unlikely that any for of compensation would be due.  My wife's employer did something similar, moved from the centre of a city to a business park approximately 5 miles away.  It was ideal for my wife as the office is easier to access, has free parking for everybody, and is only 2 miles from home.  For those on the other side of town, or using public transport, it is not so convenient but the simple and brutal reality is they accept or leave.

thanks all for the input - good to know where i stand legally etc. Responses are pretty much along the lines i assumed

I'm not moving house (4 kids in school) + elderly parents nearby so i guess im going to have to just suck it up

No harm asking for something in return though i guess :)

    Thanks

Sometimes employers will do something temporarily e.g. cover extra time/fuel for 6 months to ease the adjustment, but ultimately people have to adjust to the business change.

Seriously, if they moved 15 minutes closer would you offer to work longer?

I'm guessing you can't work at home one or two days a week to offset the extra travel. Its unlikely but as you say if you don't ask you don't get

My employer moved our office 30 miles and our options were suck it up or leave.  We had to have cars for the job so the argument about getting there by public transport wouldn't work.

No because that would be no advantage to me

    I work for my benefit

    Fair enough.
When employers move offices (or other business change) they accept they may lose some people.

Bottom line is you need to weigh up whether this jobs is worth staying for with the extra commute vs what is available elsewhere.
If you can find something that suits you better then just do that.
Your employer will have accepted they might lose some people by moving offices.

Maybe it's time to have a look around at what else is on offer nearer to you or perhaps with hybrid/remote working.

And they employ you for their benefit.  So by your logic there, why on earth would they agree to giving you anything, as it is no advantage to them?

It is exactly the same as if nothing changed and you walked in and asked for more money. Whether they give it to you depends entirely on how much they want to keep you, and nothing is anything to do with what is fair or reasonable.
