Barclays Blue Rewards: A very quick question

Apologies for starting a new thread. I'm sure the answer to my question will be on one of the recent threads following Barclays launch of the Rainy Day Saver but I don't know where to look.

I already have a Barclays current account and have just switched Blue Rewards back on in order to qualify for the RD Saver.. My question is: in order to get the £5 monthly Blue reward to offset the £5 monthly fee, 2 direct debits have to pay out during the month. Do these have to be two different mandates, or would 2 or more weekly payments on the same mandate work? I'm thinking of moving my Moneybox direct debit to Barclays. Many thanks for any help.

  • The same mandate twice works just fine.

Do you happen to know if this is the same for RBS & NatWest Reward accounts?

The same mandate can be used for the Natwest and RBS accounts

Thanks for the reply, it will make running those accounts 50% easier from now on! Maybe I was being dim, but it had never occurred to me that the same one twice would do.

Yes, much easier. Especially now that there are fewer savings accounts taking Direct Debits. Some require two different mandates e.g. Lloyds Club.

I did it for Natwest reward for the first month on the off chance & it worked. I'm doing the same for Barclays.

I do have a Club account but only for the free copy of Mojo magazine each month so thankfully don't need DDs for that. Moneybox and Plum will now cover RBS & NatWest between them and all my actual bill DDs can be kept with my main current account provider. I did used to use two for Barclays but not since they altered, well, removed, the cashback.

    Thanks for the confirmation!
  • Glad I clicked into this thread, was looking for a new DD to set up following the closure of OnePoundDD, had never heard of Moneybox before but seems like the perfect solution!  Have got the DD set up with them now :)
