Virgin have emailed me saying;

"337 GB Data used up last month.
That’s like getting your Netflix fix for 481 hours with faves Mo, Selling the OC and Never Have I Ever

You’re in the
top 20%
of all our broadband customers for data usage last month. Now that’s what you call serious internetting"

Not sure the point of these emails, are they trying to give me a nudge that using too much data? I have got Virgin 100mb only internet.

Surely 337 GB data is not alot?

    337gb in a month does seem like a lot... are you aware of any large downloads? To hit that level I'd expect someone to be downloading a lot of video files.

    To burn through 337Gb implies a lot of video streaming may be going on - typically Prime/Netflix/iPlayer etc and UHD streaming.  Video takes up a lot of data transfer, especially UHD/4k.

    However that being said, Ofcom says the average data usage is 429Gb per month:
    https://www.ofcom.org.uk/__data/assets/pdf_file/0011/222401/communications-market-report-2021.pdf - "Average monthly data use per fixed broadband connection increased [compared to 2020] by 36% to 429 GB, while average use per mobile data user was up by 27% to 4.5 GB per month. Although those that are online are getting faster connections and using more data, 6% of households are not online."

    So your 337Gb is actually below the average for 2021.

    337 doesnt appear much when you have a figure almost twice that.

    No, 337GB isn't a lot really, I use about 4TB a month (approx 4,000GB) and they don't seem to mind.

    But as for the 20% thing, who knows, apparently, I'm in the top 20% that watch sports but nobody in my family ever watches a sports channel!

    That's quite funny.

    Clearly how Virgin judge people to be in the top 20% of whatever category is not really that accurate.
