How can I fly

I’m due to fly on Saturday

Problem is after a week of doing home readings and mostly very high blood pressure

The doctor has now put me on pills, and said you need to speak to aviation doctor for airline to travel.

I phone airline, who said you need to speak to your own gp.

I only started tablets yesterday and my blood pressure is slightly lower.still very high

The insurence company said, I need a verbal agreement from doctor to say I’m fit to travel, problem with that is:

1)Will I be able to get a doctors appointment, when I call tommrow.

  1. will they say I’m fit to travel, I don’t think any doctor would, just incase soemthing happens, and on top they refer me to cardiologist as he can’t undertand why there so high I’m 35,and still futhur test due.

If my blood pressure is still high by Friday I won’t go, but if it’s lowerd im worried there I’ll still say no due to there still doing other test.

Which I feel will come back fine and im down to travel as it’s low and everything elese fine.

I have not other issues., my actual heartbeat is fine.

I do get headaches but that may be blood pressure related.

There is no ‘aviation doctor’. Your own GP (who is after all best placed to know about your medical condition) should be the one to either certify you as fit to fly, or not.

If the airline or insurance is made aware of your medical issues then they may require what is called a Fit to Fly certificate. This would normally be issued by your GP, or another medical professional.

If your GP says you are not fit to fly then push for a letter or similar from them so that you can make a travel insurance claim.  Some GP’s will charge for this.

Looking at your other thread , you did manage to update your declaration for the insurance companies didn’t you?  The reason I ask is that (without offering or suggesting any medical advice in line with MSE policy) is that high blood pressure might be linked to your other issues.

Looking at other threads it also looks like you took out insurance quite late , again another reason why I am concerned that everything was mentioned in case you are unfortunately unable to fly.

    Hope all goes well incidentally.

    Thanks for advice so far

Yes I have informers the insurance of everything elese

I went to see a nurse last night who said my blood is fine, and it’s just above normal.

Maybe medicine I took since Monday and diet chnages and little exercise kick in

So I got a gp appointment later today but not at my own gp, same surgery I was at who put me on tablets and who said see aviation doctor, to see if you fit to travel or not.

How should I word it to him, last time I even asked he goes it’s not for me to say.

With the airline I phoned, they did not take any of my details so doubt they have any record.

Just to confirm I didn’t even ask insurmce company said you just need a verbal agreement from gp.

My husband has very high blood pressure (to the extent that he nearly ended up in hospital) and he now takes a tablet which mainly controls it. We fully declare this to our insurer every year and in fact even on price comparison sites High blood pressure seems to be a fairly standard declaration and most just require details of when you last changed or added medication on the advice of a GP, I don't even think it loads anything much onto our insurance cost at all.

However he has never been told not to fly. So if your GP is telling you not to fly he needs to back that up with something official that you can take to your insurers, if GP doesn't think it serious enough to actually state you cannot fly, then I can't see the insurers being interested. As long as you are fully covered by insurance for the high blood pressure you should be fine in the unlikely event  you need any medical assistance on holiday . However as usual you need to be guided by a medical practitioner , so ask them specifically can you fly, and if not get them to supply official paperwork stating this. Don't get fobbed off with woolly answers.
