    Perhaps it depends on how many in the house and your recycling having read the variations.

    Having moved to a smaller warmer place I found, particularly this year that the free standing bin began to smell so put it outside and used a smaller bin in the cupboard. Emptying it into the larger one as necessary. Also not so much waste in summer.

    In winter the larger free stander in the kitchen keeps you warm and dry.

    Perhaps leave the space so you can change your mind or trial a smaller free stander in the cupboard so you can see how it works for you.
