Hi folks,

After the last few months problems with Talktalk, I am finally ready to jump ship, Just wondering does this seem like a good deal form BT?  the 500mbits package for £30.99.

Another thing I consider important is engineer call out charges if they say it's my equipment's fault.

I don't want any package lower than 150 mbits down.

What do you think of the above 500 package?

Talktalk has put a cease on my account and wanted me to order as a new customer (after being nine years with them) but I don't really trust them to sort out the current tech problems with new order.

I take it that cease on my account has definitely got to be removed.?

Its not internet not working it's Talktalks terrible customer service and inability either to stop overcharging each month (wroing package on account) and not getting the desired speed, all avenues have been explored to a dead end with Talktalk.

Many Thanks for any help on leaving Talktalk.

Can't see any 500Mbit package, that may be bespoke to your area.

Engineer call out charges for consideration - for your purposes are irrelevant.  Because Openreach maintain and look after the network on "their" side of the socket on behalf of all BT line based providers.  If they find an issue on your side they are entitled to charge, they've always been entitled to charge, but may happen happen is it gets passed back to the provider they decide whether to pass it on, in full or otherwise.

Isn't 'a good deal from BT' a bit of an oxymoron ?

Thanks I overlooked that I just pasted it in.

    No.

I'm with BT and if you want a good deal, all you need to do is phone them and haggle. Which many British people are loath to do. And they do miss out.

Also BT is the only broadband supplier capable of supplying a continuous service for us without constantly losing signals where I live. (Out in the sticks). Unlike our previous supplier.

So while I'm a great fan of the word 'oxymoron', I cannot agree that it's applicable here.

Why not just tell TalkTalk that they are not providing the service that they promised to provide when you signed up with them and for which you are paying, so you need to leave?

If they are unable to provide you with the service they originally promised then the contract has to be null and void.

And why not phone BT to find out what deal they can give you? Don't just sign up to a deal without phoning them because you definitely will end up paying over the odds.

I'm with BT, have been with them for a long time and every time my contract is up for renewal I phone them and re-negotiate.

It's the best way to get the best deal. And do tell them if you're not happy, and why. They'll often say 'we can do this and this, is that okay?' And I'll say 'no, because I want to add something else'. It usually works. You won't get anything unless you ask, though.

  • Just an update, I have signed up to that 500 down package with BT and also took out a EE mobile package with calls and texts + 20gb  of data a month.

    Bt 500 mbits package £30.99 +Mobile at £9=£39.99 a month.

I have really had enough of the terrible Talktalk customer service these past few months.

It will depend on your areas. Generally BT with their "CityFibre" network is cheaper than virgin. But not many people could get it. If you have "hyperoptic" network around you you might get the best deal in term of £/mbps

Do you have a contact number for BT? I am coming to end of contract and tried to use the live chat. It was like banging my head against a brick wall. They offered me Halo 3 and the bt sports app for £51 no landline. I have been with bt for 20 years and never had a problem. But I don’t want to pay any more than £40 ideally.

I’d also like to retain access to the  sports app for my 81 year old dad as he loves his football (I hate sports). But it’s too expensive now. Considering moving to plusnet.

Live chat is not that great I find for anything, best to call the provider number on BT website.

And before you do, input your address and see what deals are available to you.
  • We've been with them for 10+ years and our contract is up at then end of this month. Phoned them a couple of times and the best i can get is the 150 down for £29.99. I think they said it would be £2 to keep landline as well. We get garbage fibre speeds here so i think we'll definitely be going FTTP but not sure who with.

Currently have Fibre with Halo 1 with them at £25.43 per month. We already have the SmartHub 2 so i think that's ok going forward. We also have a phone that they provided plugged into it.

I think it's just Sky. TT, Vodafone and BT available here. Really not sure what to do yet.

Tempted to just stay with BT even though i think Vodafone would probably beat that per month with a voucher back. Possibly beat it even without voucher. Not sure if they'll take home phone on though.

Wondering if it's worth hanging on till Black Friday time as my current deal is up 30th November.
