Credits made (DDs paid or manual payments) = £373.62 - minus fuel used of £214.13 (inc VAT) = £159.49 credit.

Add that to the 'new balance' of £1207.43 and it makes the adjustment amount of £1366.92.   In my own case, the adjustment on page 2 (which we haven't seen) is the credit that was applied to my new version of the BG account.
Thanks. So is £1207.43 (the new balance)  owed now or is it what it will be in a year’s time due to the £1366.92 estimate for future use?

The suggestion is that there has been some new system implemented hence the invoice starts with a £0 opening balance and has an adjustment which would be moving the credit/debit over to the new system from the old one.

    1) need to see page 2

    2) what was the closing balance on the last statement? £1,366.92 in debt is probably the answer.

You're usage so far is £214.13.
You're estimated usage in costs to this time next year is £1366.92.
    You've paid £373.92
    Balance left £1207.43
So basically you need to pay £100 a minute nth to have a balance of around £373 this time next year.

But you're estimated usage maybe more or less than this, so you may need to adjust you're direct debit up or down accordingly.
The only way you'll know for sure is take monthly readings consistently.

Thanks for that, being really thick and rather unwell at the moment, surely the £1207.43 isn’t the balance at 8th Oct 22 then but estimated balance at 8th Oct 23? This family member is worried they currently are going to have this amount taken from their account now as well as the regular DD payments.
I'm a bit confused now myself - you said in the OP that they've not been at the property since July - is it still an active account then and they're still paying monthly direct debits?  If that's the case, then I think it is the same as mine - that the 'adjustment' is their balance being transferred to the new account format.

Thanks. They have just been living away from this property from July to October while working in London. They are still paying monthly DDs. Does this mean a debt of £1207.43 has built up through underpayments? Another post seemed to imply this is what would be owed by October 23!?

I think their balance has been forwarded to the new system and it shows a debit balance of £1207.43 - mine has a big CR next to the amount of my balance in the bottom box - and I know I'm in credit.

Their earlier balance was -£1366.92, they paid £373.62 (3 x 124.54) and used £214.13 of fuel between July and October.

    -1366.92 + 373.62 - 214.13 = -1207.43

Yes @vigman I think it's a debit balance through underpayment.  I don't think it's anything to do with future projections.

I'm hoping someone else will ratify my own thinking - I'm just basing it on what my own 'adjustment' bill looks like.

Thanks. Is that £1207.43 taken by increasing DDs please ( rather than a lump sum)

They are working off estimated readings for a start, I would speak to the family member/s and get them to take a picture of the gas meter and one of the electric meter and send them to BG, and let you/us know so we can see if they are using more or less than BG's estimates.

I'm not sure what the migrated opening balance means? Was they with BG in a another property and the balance has been brought over from that property?

They could probably do a mix of increasing the DD, making a manual payment and as they have electricity with BG too - they'll get the £400 credited to their account too.  But with BG, I think they're taking regular DDs then refunding £66 / £67 back into the bank account.  So at very least, it will need adjustment to the monthly DD.

Prices have gone up since 1/10, so their future use is going to be at least £2300 - using the annual usage figures on the bill - so they need to account for that on top of the debit - going forwards.  So the DD will need to be over £290 per month to cover it all - of which they'll get £400 back.

But I want someone else to comment to check my thinking before they change anything.
