I did read but I hope you can understand the confusion from this quote.

I still think if your IHD isnt working by now, you going to need another visit.  On my second visit I convinced the engineer that it wasnt good enough they leave before confirming its working, but I also sympathised with their predicament, he agreed I could ring him later in the day if it wasnt working by then as a compromise, so he would come back, I didnt need to do that luckily.

I suspect the IHD was not paired. As the meter was not working properly when installed (see my original post - the installer said that they usually work within ten minutes of fitting, but sometimes take up to twelve hours. In my case it was showing a message for about six hours before starting to show data) he would not have the opportunity to perform any pairing needed.

Suppliers and Registered DCC Other Users can pair IHDs and CADs to a smart meter comms hub remotely. Hildebrand and Chameleon send out their IHDs already paired to the end user’s comms hub. It shouldn’t require an installer visit if it is just a pairing issue.

Each SMETS2 comms hub can have up to 4 IHDs or CADs paired to it.

Interesting that there is a disagreement between people who know more than me about whether the IHD can be commissioned remotely or not. I have now spoken to someone at SMS (the installing firm) who said that their technical department will check to see whether or not it can be done remotely. The IHD is a Chameleon IHD3-PPMID-AAA 2022 Model CA309005 type1.

Trouble-shooting instructions from SMS say to turn the deice off and on via the power button on the back. But there doesn't seem to be a power button. Possibly the little bit below the battery compartment, though I can't see how that can be presses, a fingernail won't do it.

The guy who helped me works for EDF.  It probably is worth trying the power cycle, which would be to their let the battery run flat (which doesnt take long) or to long press the button.

All I can say is the EDF guy proved right for me and Octopus claimed multiple times they would fix remotely, and it only started working when a new engineer came out and did it himself, but maybe my case was unusual and Dolor is right for most situations as he does appear to have some knowledge of smart meter rollouts, I respect the posts he has made in many threads.

The back of yours is different from the one on this video.

Chameleon now offers the IVIE Bud as a replacement IHD. It appears to be very similar in design to its IHD6/7. The device arrives pre-paired to the purchaser’s comms hub. The same applies to the Hildebrand IHD/CAD. From Hildebrand’s website:

    • Our obligations as a DCC Other User mean that customers whose meters are enrolled in the DCC will have to verify their identity before we can retrieve their data; this is all managed through our Bright App. We are able to join your Display and CAD to your SMETS meters without your supplier's involvement because we are a SECAS (Smart Energy Code Administrator) approved DCC Other User. Please be assured that your verification data is stored in a separate, secure system and Hildebrand are ISO 27001 Certified.

Presumably the AAA in the model name relates to the battery size it takes. Not a version I've seen mentioned here before but actually you're probably better off as a result as you'll be able to replace the battery should you ever need to whereas most people won't have this option.

Thanks for the video, which does show that my model is different, there does not seem to be an on/off button.

Despite having a battery in the box, I still don't know if the battery is replaceable. I can't see how to take the battery cover off.

Hopefully, either by remote action or by another visit, all will be revealed.

The Ivie Bud is interesting, but I am not inclined to pay for something that should be free.

Am I right in saying that the fact that the meter shows data is not evidence that the meter is enrolled in the DCC? As far as I understand it, enrolment is automatic, but may take several weeks to be completed.

It has just occurred to me that if the battery is replaceable then an on/off button, which does not appear to be present,  is not needed. The same effect could be achieved by disconnecting from the mains and removing the battery. But I still can't see how to remove the battery, if that is what is needed.

Do you have the mains power supply?
