Is onepoundDD safe?

OnepoundDD looks to be going away, at least temporarily, from their homepage:

Due to technical issues with our payment processor we are currently not accepting new Direct Debits. Please check back in the next few days for a status update.


And from an email message just received, it seems they are no longer working with GoCardless (the DD provider).

Time for some alternatives.

I had this email come through just now from them:

Hi All,

 

I unfortunately received an email today from GoCardless (the payments provider that OnePoundDD uses) that they have irrevocably closed OnePoundDD’s account with immediate effect. No notice was given of this taking effect and it means that they will no longer be processing any Direct Debits going forward. This is also the cause of the technical issues I have had the last few days with no payments being taken on the 10th of the month scheme.

 

Why has this happened?

In short: I don’t know and they won’t say.

I received an initial email from GoCardless on Friday last week saying that my account had failed their “Verification Checks” and that OnePoundDD’s account would be closed with immediate effect with no notice or explanation why. Over the last few days I have continuously chased them on the phone, email and even directly emailing their CEO for an explanation. None has yet been provided.

Today was the first reply I got from the customer service team, and they reaffirmed they would not be providing a reason for the closure or revoking the closure. I did not send out this email to you sooner because I had a similar situation 3 years ago where GoCardless shut down all payments on my account with no communication or notice but after contacting their CEO, I was able to resolve the issues they had and resume taking payments.

I was hopeful I could do the same again but after the email today, I do not believe this to be the case and am therefore sending this email.

 

Cancelling Your Direct Debits

Please reply to this email if you would like to cancel any Direct Debits and I will cancel them on my end for you. No payments will be taken in the short term but may resume if I migrate the payments to another provider.

 

Alternative Direct Debits

I know a lot of you signed up to the site with the intention of using it for a bank switch in the near future. Here are some alternative Direct Debits you can sign up to in the meantime:

What’s next for OnePoundDD?

In the short term, I will no longer be able to take any payments or be accepting any new signups. However, I am in the process of looking for a new payments provider so that members like yourselves can continue to support the running of the website and supporting the charities I donate to.

When this is finalized and the website is working once again, I will update you all with the latest information.
