The electricity goes off then so does the router, which means nothing is online, which means pretty much everything stops.
I'm sorry about your Dad, I can well imagine many people are in the same boat - I hope if rolling blackouts do happen that this is planned for.

Had to chip in about the internet though - yes, the router will go off, but actual websites will still be accessible. The large internet companies (e.g. Amazon Web Services), the ones that host websites etc have standbyplans and generators for this kind of situation, not to mention fallback plans located in other countries, so assuming you can still access the net somehow (e.g. through your mobile) then yes, the internet itself will still work. It's only individual access to it that will stop. The only way the internet will stop is if the world as a whole is having problems - and that's a whole other thang to worry about!
If the power goes out to the green box in your road you won't have internet even if you are able to keep your router running
does mobile internet (3 and 4 g) run fro the same boxes?
Almost everything will work again if you unplug it for a few minutes, including you. Anne Lamott

It's amazing how those with a can-do attitude and willingness to 'pitch in and work' get all the luck, isn't it?

No, those use the mobile phone masts which have their own backup.

    Can't beat a freshly ironed cotton t-shirt.

Even putting it straight on a hanger isn't the same.

    (IMO 😉)
nicest for me is right off the line. peg it on the hem to avoid peg marks on the shiulders and all the cresses just drop out. plus nothing smells nicer than line dried.

On to 4G and 5G now ;-) . No it doesn't run from the same boxes. Depending on how they split areas you can probably pick up signal from another mast outside your area in a town. Not so likely as you get more rural.

And the smell of money in the bank not spent on irons, electricity and that free time to do what I want.

Money saving isn't an exact science, but personally, my cotton t-shirts are just fine to wear after going on a hanger out of the machine and I'd rather spend my time and money doing something fun wearing my t-shirt rather than faffing about with them.

Most green cabinets for broadband have a battery backup - that could last anything from 4-12 hours but not all of them have it - that's for Openreach. Virgin are separate but again a good number have battery backup.

Most mobile masts have their own battery backup as well, I think the recommendation is 1 hour, the emergency services rely on it so there are some recommendations.

I have even seen some mobile masts running off a generator 24/7 near where I live but I think that was an exception.

WE had an unplanned outage in a small city and several local towns quite recently.  The landline and internet continued to work (we have 67mbs fibre to the cabinet) for the whole 90 mins the power was off.  The mobile network (all of them) went down as soon as the power went off.  I had to go out and collect my daughter as otherwise she was walking home in the pitch dark, no streetlights and got a tiny bit of voice coverage in the centre of the city but no data.  SO my experience is the broadband does still work but the mobile networks don't.
    I think....

    Ironing socks!!??!! 🤣😱

My mother used to iron socks.  She said it ensured they were absolutely dry - in the days before spin dryers etc (hand-wringing/mangle on the machine only)
