Paypal and setting up direct debit

Thanks to the OP and the folk who contributed to this post, especially the tips on bypassing the Open Banking - I was in need of another DD and have it all set up via the PayPal app now - I thought PP had stopped doing DDs totally in favour of open banking access. Thanks again!

Don't try initiating a second deposit from Barclays until the first has been taken as it will just add it to the first.

I initiated one on 04/10/22, which was due to be taken 12/10/22, however, for unknown reasons, the date requested by PayPal was 09/10/22 (yesterday) and collection date changed to 18/10/22.

An attempt to start another today, revealed the same collection date as the first, i.e. 18/10/22.

Going to be a squeeze now to get two DDs taken this month I feel, unless my broadband DD has switched quickly enough. I shall find out by Friday.

I don't know what is happening with them but the date of mine has been changed to the 18th too. It's a deposit I initiated on the 1st of October and haven't initiated any second deposit since then   

The deposit I initiated from a different bank, also on 1st October, was completed today.

Do you have to actually ‘fund’ PayPal using this linked DD for it to count as valid for switching purposes ?
Is it sufficient for it to merely appear in the account you are switching from ?
