Paypal and setting up direct debit

May I quickly check with those of you here with experience ...
As I understand, I can can use the website to add / link my bank account to create a direct debit, but will need to manually pull in a payment from my bank account via the app (cannot perform on website??)?
So if I wanted a monthly payment of £10, I'd have to remember doing it on the app every month?
Also, when does the DD gets setup - when I request / pull in my first payment (for it to perform the initial handshake which could take up to 10 days)?

I recently added my current account to paypal.Within a few days it was showing on my current account DD section. It actually shows two DD, Paypal UK and JPMC re Paypal. As far as i understand you cant fund your own paypal account balance via DD. Not on website , i dont use app though. You can send funds to another person and that will be taken by DD on the chosen bank account. If you buy something online and use paypal as payment method it will be taken as DD.0

You can fund it via the app.
I set up a DD this week for Barclays and then initiated a 1p transfer in to my PayPal account via DD.
It takes about a week from date of transaction until date DD taken.1 -

It takes about a week from date of transaction until date DD taken. Thanks - I've taken a look and have linked my account. However, I was a little disconcerted when they wanted on two occasions for me to log into my bank account by agreeing and confirming that I'm happy for them to essentially have access to my account for the next 90 days?!I added my account 'a different way' via sort code / account number and code validation, but by logging into my bank whilst Paypal was in the background, I haven't inadvertently allowed them access to my account, have I?I guess this has something to do with open banking?0 -
No, to the access question.
Yes to the open banking connection question.
They keep trying to lure you into signing up to the Open Banking connection. That is not a direct debit.
Well done for not falling for it.
I too just kept clicking on the different way option

I successfully did this in August and September but when I try now I keep getting an error message...really frustrating.0 -
I have had a DD set up to pay Paypal for years without any problems. When Paypal account becomes in credit due to an eBay refund, it works OK the other way too, with Paypal paying the credit into the bank account. It wasn't always thus. In the past the credit would stay in the Paypal account, and then fund the next eBay purchase.0

I've tried to set up a direct debit from PayPal to a new Barclays account I've opened and am coming up against an error message tooI consider myself to be a male feminist. Is that allowed?1

Further to my post above, I've managed to get it to work by going into 'Wallet' and manually entering the sort code and account numberI consider myself to be a male feminist. Is that allowed?0
