I don't understand how we can do this? The only contact with the coach driver's insurance company is via my insurance company, I don't think we can call them up directly that's for our insurance company to do isn't it?se2020 said:You are entitled to be put back into the same position as you were before the accident.
So just put in a claim for the extra cost on your renewal to the coach drivers insurance company0 -
But the extra cost is (or should be) only temporary, and will be refunded in due course. I can't see the insurer accepting such a claim.se2020 said:You are entitled to be put back into the same position as you were before the accident.

This is where you're going wrong. Actually it's usually better to go directly through the third party insurers when they are clearly at fault and admit liability. They do their best to minimise costs and make things go as smoothly as possible.plh56 said:

Right now my car is having some minor damage repaired after someone pulled out in front of me. The third party insurers are paying for the repair at my choice of garage and have provided me with a like for like hire car at no expense to me.
My own insurers simply opened and closed a case on my behalf for 'information only' so I believe it's all showing as settled on the insurers database.1 -
The only difficulty is that should the other side not fix to your satisfaction, or offer way under what is reasonable in a write off, going through the third party level you no recourse via the ombudsman.0

Yes, but you instead go to court. They tend to like to avoid this as they can be hit with enormous costs if found to be 'unreasonable' which is pretty well defined in case history. So they tend to be 'reasonable'.ontheroad1970 said:The only difficulty is that should the other side not fix to your satisfaction, or offer way under what is reasonable in a write off, going through the third party level you no recourse via the ombudsman.0 -
Thanks for the information, will keep it in mind for future. In this case it's a bit more complicated as the coach did not hit me directly, but hit another car which then hit me. Perhaps it makes no difference but perhaps it does as if I contacted the 3rd party insurance perhaps i should be contacting the car that actually hit me as that is what caused my damage, and then as they are also not at fault, they then contact the coach insurer to reclaim their costs from them?Petriix said:

Without being an expert in how this works, I'd be worried about claiming off the wrong party initially.0 -
Unless things have changed since I was in insurance (which was admittedly early 80's) your claim is against the car that hit you, their insurance then claims all losses including your claim and their insureds claim from the coach company.Totally Debt Free & Mortgage Free Semi retired and happy0
