Being £50 below the cap ( when that was the case) got them fantastic online headlines, articles, social media. forum mentions, all free advertising and i had seen GJ use it to claim Octopus sold cheapest energy despite most of the other large energy suppliers at the time offering cheaper existing customer standard fixed rates including British Gas who had been offering cheaper Standing Charges on loyalty fixed rates than on SVR tariff.Alnat1 said:Be grateful you got it for so long rather than complaining, they didn't have to give a loyalty discount at all, they were being nice.0 -
This was what they said when it was introduced from 2nd April - this was in an email dated 10th March - note the word 'temporary' and only their intention to keep it going:Today, we’re introducing a temporary Loyal Octopus support to help customers like you keep
your bills as low as possible in this difficult time. The reward automatically reduces electricity
charges by £48 per year compared to our standard tariff (that's £50 below the price cap).
[snip]
We intend to maintain this support throughout the current price cap period, but if we need to
change our Loyal Octopus support, we’ll always let you know with plenty of notice.Likewise, withdrawing it, I got the email on 18th September:
6 months ago, we introduced Loyal Octopus support to help address this, but
today Loyal Octopus support is changing to direct support where it’s needed most.To date, I've personally already had it for 180 days so far, totalling £23.67 - if they want to put my remaining £24.33 towards people with greater need than me, then I'm happy with that.

Because high users save more than low users
How is that fair?Removing the loyalty discount on the standing charge hits all users equally.
Prices have risen. I'm surprised you haven't noticed, it's been quite a popular topic on the forum these past 12 months.MouldyOldDough said:I used to. If I was half as smart as I think I am - I'd be twice as smart as I REALLY am.0
