Hi everyone,
Still a bit salty about this situation from last year..
We were due to fly to Austria in December last year (10th-14th) with Ryanair. Unfortunately Austria went into a lockdown before we were due to fly (with the return flight the day after it was due to end)
I raised with Ryanair customer support that I believed it would have been illegal to travel to Austria as travelling for leisure was not permitted under their rules.
Is there anything I missed to be able to recoup the costs of the flight? Ryanair wouldn't refund us based on this...

If the flight operated then you really have no comeback.

there was a CMA investigation on whether airlines should have given refunds in this situation but it was closed
"Consumer protection law sets out that passengers are entitled to refunds when an airline cancels a flight, because the firm cannot provide its contracted services. However, it does not clearly cover whether people should be refunded when their flight goes ahead but they are legally prohibited from taking it."
