This is all over the media but there hasn't been any official statement from either Ofgem or the National Grid as far as I can see.ChaunceyGardiner said:

Ofgem made a publication today which contains this statement:-The_Green_Hornet said:

Remember that in the OFGEM and National Grid world, ‘emergency’ can simply mean “we don’t have as much spare as we thought we would”.
The first level of electricity ‘emergency’ is that they don’t have 500MW more than the (often roughly 2000MW) spare power stations that they planned for.4 -
and according to the media, which may or may not be true, if the gas is cut to the gas fired power stations they get massively fined for not being able to supply electricity

That was why SSE raised the issue in the first place. All of the publicity is from Ofgem's response.daveaspy said:and according to the media, which may or may not be true, if the gas is cut to the gas fired power stations they get massively fined for not being able to supply electricity

The sooner someone puts a bullet in Putin's head or kicks him out of office the better.
What has changed in terms of global gas supplies in the past 12 months, other than the crass stupidity of one megalomaniac?0 -
Thanks for the link.chris_n said:

But isn't this just the continuation of the "war in Ukraine may cause gas shortages" which we have known about for some time now or is this something new?0 -
Its a headline..must be true then...0

Of course, domestic gas supplies cannot just be switched on and off like electricity. Gas pipes would need to be "purged" of air at each meter point following an outage. Presumably, in the event of a shortage, less gas would be used for electricity generation to avoid domestic outages.I have osteoarthritis in my hands so I speak my messages into a microphone using Dragon. Some people make "typos" but I often make "speakos".1

And so we should be. Once the government officially denies something will happen, we know for certain that it will...facade said:Dolor said:Scaremongering at its worst!
From the lips of our PM:
Asked last week whether she ruled out energy rationing, Truss said: “I do rule that out. Yes.” The government has repeatedly said consumers and businesses should have confidence they will have the power they need over the winter.Source: The Guardian.
