All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

Because their forecast of £4,266 for average bills by Jan 2023 created a political firestorm, when in reality the wholesale price of gas is dropping. Ofgem has been 'captured' by the industry it's supposed to be regulating.

But Ofgem said no forecast for next year could be "robust" at this stage and had "limited value".

I must have missed the Ofgem forecast. Can you please post a link?

I am only aware of the Auxilione and Cornwall Insight forecasts. And they had forcasts for over £5000.

A forecast can only be done from the information that is available, why do you believe they have to know that prices will come down?

From the lips of our PM:

Asked last week whether she ruled out energy rationing, Truss said: “I do rule that out. Yes.” The government has repeatedly said consumers and businesses should have confidence they will have the power they need over the winter.

You have made this claim several times in recent weeks, but it's not exactly true is it? You only seem to notice when the price falls, not when it rises again.
Ofgem's October capped gas price of about 15p/kWh was based on a wholesale price of 10.2p/kWh. Thats equivalent to 299p per therm.
Since the cap was set, in early August, the gas price at Trading Economics (the site you often quote) has been above 300p/therm almost all the time.
As I type this the price is 311.67, higher than the price Ofgem used to calculate the cap.

It's not a forecast, it's the average forward price of gas during the cap reference period.
You can see the price they used in the spreadsheets Ofgem published along with the cap announcement.
