The 4 oven AGAs pretty much need the full 7 hours. (whilst it may look like it has 5 or 6 ovens - depending on the model version - the two in the middle are blank panels). I don't think I recall ever seeing ours stop drawing electricity before the timer. Although when it was overnight, I wasn't looking. Now it's from almost 9am to 4pm, I am going to keep a closer look.
We use the spots too much. We should use them less, but we drink a lot of tea, and my wife doesn't like using the top shelf grill for things that spit as it makes the oven messy, and you cant clean it until it's turned off in the Summer.
Ours had to have one of the element banks replaced last year. They last much longer if the AGAs remain turned on but we turn ours off during the warmer months. So, you have the risk of an element burning out vs lower electricity use.
I read online that if you set the AGA control knob to 0 in summer it will draw less energy and wont expel as much heat. It then takes an hour to build temp after you turn it back up, but you then turn it back down after cooking. Not sure if that is internet rubbish or genuine. However, this year I will probably set it lower when I initially fire it up just to avoid the first 24 hours having the out-of-hours draw/"naughty thing"
