Yes, but on average /approx /+/- a hundred or sosheramber said:There may an average of 2000 a day but that does not mean that exactly 2000 births happen on each day.
When we had the 3 day week there was a surge in birth numbers 9 months later.
See the above heatmap, the variance is much more than +/- 100 or so
No one wants to give birth on Xmas or New Years Day plus as holidays that never move in the calendar you'll get no elective deliveries scheduled for these dates2 -
The different tables and charts are interesting, within my extended family including Aunts, Uncles, Cousin etc October is the most popular birth month but more than 90% of births fall between October and April.
We have just 3 summer babies all born in July and August, and all other Births falling within the above mentioned 6 monthsMake £2023 in 2023 (#36) £3479.30/£2023
Make £2024 in 2024...1 -
Yes - I think partly as there won't be any planned caesarians on bank holidays, and where there is a complication they may recommend a planned caesarian or induction before the holiday.annabanana82 said:I'd say there are different varying factors, when I was talking to one midwife when in hospital she said Christmas day was very typically the quietest day of the year.
It also varuiaes, as others have said, by the time of year - 9 months after holidays for instance! All posts are my personal opinion, not formal advice Always get proper, professional advice (particularly about anything legal!)1 -
And because Xmas is fixed date... Easter is similar, you wont get any planned c-sections etc but easter changes date every year and so its impact is spread over 35 days rather than concentrated into 1TBagpuss said:

What a very odd thing to argue about, and your wife is correct, sorry!MouldyOldDough said:I have been having an argument with my wife over the number of births per day in UKThere are approximately 750,000 births in UK each year
I claim that the number of births per day is approximately 2000 per day
My wife says that there are other factors involved but what are they?
The whole thing started with her telling me that not many people were born on her birthday
I disagreed and told her that the same number were born on my birthday (approximately)
STATISTICALLY, you have a "normal" distribution, so on average you will get 2000 births a day, but this is going to vary within a certain range.
But as humans are not robots, then the factors involved are alcohol (drunken s*x on New Years Eve and Christmas results in a lot of pregnancies so 9 months after this date e.g. September there are FAR more births!). A new year is often a time where people decide to start trying for a baby, so more September to December births.
Apparently September 26th is the day with the most birthdays! (The other top 10 dates are also in September and beginning of October).
Also, when temperatures are VERY cold, people are known to er... snuggle up more to keep warm!
Also, if you're having a C-Section or induced birth, these won't generally take place on bank holidays unless it's an emergency, so less babies on bank holidays.
April has the lowest birth rate in the UK. Too hot in summer for bedroom action apparently...!The April birth rate comment is strange. I know loads of people with April birtdays - holiday conceptions? When I was in col someone in our group had a birthday on every day in April. In my school three of us had April 16th birthdays. In my current sending cards to group I have 2nd, 7th, 8th, 16th, 17th, 19th, 22nd and 26th.Member #14 of SKI-ers club

I’m a Boxing Day baby, or else I was many moons ago! I’ve never met anyone who shares my birthday. It’s a horrible day to have a celebration, nearly as bad as Christmas Day I would imagine.0

A mate is a Christmas day baby!pattycake said:I’m a Boxing Day baby, or else I was many moons ago! I’ve never met anyone who shares my birthday. It’s a horrible day to have a celebration, nearly as bad as Christmas Day I would imagine.
I was always told I'd be getting a bigger gift Christmas day and handed a token gift, if I was lucky, on my birthday; never did get anything different compared to my siblings. It's happened even as an adult.Mortgage started 2020, aiming to clear 31/12/2029.0 -
Christmas Day is the second lowest birth rate and New Years Day 3rd. Close friend when growing up was a Xmas Eve child which could have been worse but then he moved to Latin America where Xmas Eve not Xmas Day is the big celebration so AM is his birthday and PM is Xmas.pattycake said:I’m a Boxing Day baby, or else I was many moons ago! I always fancied a 29 Feb... I got the right day just not the right month.
It is funny how clusters of birthday's occur... my gran, mother (her daughter) and my ex all had the same birthday. I am the same birthday as my adoptive half brother0
