If, as expected, Khan expands ULEZ in August? next year, we’ll find ourselves living in the zone and liable to a daily charge every time we move the car. We’re presently a mile outside the zone and with the exception of two hospital appointments have avoided any charges.
We’re driving a 63 plate Land Rover which we’d hate to have to let go but looks as if we’ll be forced to. We’re going to have to replace a very reliable, well maintained and regularly serviced car, at considerable cost, just to avoid funding the Mayors coffers.
Apart from the obvious consideration that we’ll get more now on trade in than in say 9 months time, should we be looking at taking steps to replace the LR now, or delay until nearer the time?
Any constructive thoughts would be welcomed. Thanks

Land Rover and Very liable in the same sentence, I would sell it before it starts to be no longer reliable !.

If its a proper original Land Rover Defender you will always sell it for top dollar as long as you are prepared to sell it privately.

If its a Freelander well done owning the relaible one they built that year (!).  Keep it until you are certain about ULEZ.

Will definitely swallow me up - I’m about a mile outside now and it’ll be extended to include all London Boroughs. Pretty up everything inside the M25 😂

If you are going to be replacing the car 'at considerable cost' would it not be cheaper to pay the ULEZ charge when you need to use the car, and use alternatives when possible? (Worth checking if your hospital appointments meet the criteria for a refund).

There is a big country out there beyond London to sell to.  But of course country buyers are wise to this and looking for distressed sellers in London in this situation.

Pretty much used daily - 300 days would rack up over £3500

If it's a 63 plate, it would be a Freelander 2.  They are completely different beasts to the old Freelander, and possibly one of the most reliable cars Land Rover have sold in a long time..
    If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.

It is indeed a F2 and yes, perhaps one of the better vehicle that LR ever made. Although there was ‘consultation’ about the ULEZ expansion it’s difficult to see, given the huge amount of money it generates, that Khan will not go ahead with it. That leads me back to my initial query - should we be thinking about changing the car now or later?
