Question for fellow BG account holders re.submitting meter read via form

Hello helpful people!

Has anyone used the BG meter read submission form at https://www.britishgas.co.uk/help-and-support/submit-meter-read ?   Did the update happen in a timely manner?

As BG can't poll my SMETS1 smart meter and I can no longer submit a meter read on-line via my account,
and possibly Chat tomorrow will be chock a block
and I have far better things to do than hanging around with BG....

I'm hoping that BG's form is a water tight alternative.

TIA!

  • As I am on variable monthly DD and my newly installed gas smart meter does not work, I use that form to give monthly readings for my gas.  I notice that it takes two working days to update on the online system.

  • I supplied a reading at tea time last night (28th Sep)and it was recorded within 24 hrs. (I switched to SVR, so sent a 2nd reading.)

One I submitted last week as a test, took 3-4 days.

I think they've increased the number of people on the "updating meter reading" tasks.

Well - the form didn't work out - the field for the electricity meter reading is too short - the blurb says enter leading zeros but if I do that the last digit of the read is truncated.

    Bother...

Looks like I will have to hang out with BG after all; chat is, as expected, overloaded.
Think I'll leave it a few days.

I couldn't wait...   so I logged on to my account to fire up Chat so that I could hand over my meter reading... lo and behold BG once again had applied their spurious reading to my electricity account - where do they get them from?  Last month BG promised to put my meter back into 'dumb mode'.

BG's applied reading resulted in a calculated consumption figure for 30 days of .......

    9998314kWh

I wonder what I would have to have been running to consume that much electricity?

My meters readings are all "invalid" according to BG.
My money is still valid, so I'm working out how much I actually owe myself, since I take a weekly "invalid" meter reading ... BG takes a monthly one on the 24th of each month, which is always the same as the one I take on the same day ...
They overestimated my gas about 3 months ago. So much for smart meter! Any meter reading I give is incorrect since it's lower than their own allegedly smart meter reading ... We haven't even caught up to their reading yet, although are almost there. All very bizarre!!!

    @Soot2006 it is bizarre!
The BG applied reading is lower than my reading, so the calc. for consumption they apply assumes my meter has  'gone round the clock'.  Now is the second month this has happened - all since they switched my account to 'smart read' mode.  So I can't log on and record a reading myself - because the account is set up for 'smart meter readings'; I can't use their form; BG aren't polling my meter but are slapping on dodgy readings and I now have the pleasure of hooking up with CS at the end of the month to put it right.

Apparently it is all going to be sorted .....sometime.

Meanwhile I have a smart meter but they  only get a monthly reading from it (previously half hourly) .. No issues with the meter. It sure seems smart. But BG doesn't seem so smart!

@Soot2006 LOL. My SMETS1 Liberty 100 appears smart enough to me - but sadly not to BG, and I cannot comprehend how BG thinks a consumption figure of 9998314kWh is in anyway realistic. There cannot be any sense checking to their systems calcs. This is why I cannot envisage moving to a variable DD.
