Options
I have this option turned on, as I wish to see when people reply to a thread I have contributed to:

However I once contributed to a thread that is going on forever, will probably never end and is now of no interest to me (For info it's Land Registry questions on the House buying board).

Is there really no way to stop getting notifications for this one post without turning that setting off completely?

MSE this is a really basic forum function and must annoy the hell out of loads of people, unless of course I'm missing how to do it?

Just for delicious irony, I got another notification on this exact thread in the middle of composing this post  :D

Our forum software providers are working on an overhaul of notifications over the coming months precisely with the aim of giving users more control over which notifications they receive, so we're hopeful this will improve before too long.

In the meantime, a partial workaround is to turn off the setting for 'discussions I've participated in' and instead use the bookmark function to track threads you do want to follow.

I've swapped to only getting notifications on bookmarked threads, because of this.

You can then add and remove bookmarks as you see fit.

    Works much better IMO.
How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 2.60% of current retirement "pot" (as at end May 2025)

I may have to try that as I've been waiting for Godot to overhaul the notifications but as an old forum lag who still misses the green style, I know better than to wait for something that won't happen.

Hi @robatwork - notifications updates are still in the pipeline for future releases of the software the forum uses.

Came to find a thread about this very topic and I'm so shocked that its not possible to turn notifications off for one thread! Never known it on any of the many forums I've used over the years. Will use the bookmark workaround for now, but its not ideal having to remember to manually bookmark a thread after posting in it.
