FTTP routing

Noticed they are starting the roll out of FTTP in my area and saw cables lying in the street as it was being installed.
So how is it routed to the house? Do they dig channels?
How long before we get offered the product how fast and what price?.
If we are already under contract do we get offered an upgrade?.

Here you go:Being offered depends on capacity and how many other people are ahead of you in the queue as it were, and with regards to upgrade... depends on the provider. As its an entirely different technology from FTTC, it may not be an "upgrade" as such, but a whole new product and contract.1

Ours comes in from the pole same as the copper did, yours may be different if there aren't poles about or it isn't Openreach putting it in.Tall, dark & handsome. Well two out of three ain't bad.0

Yes in my case (the then Talktalk UFO) they laid the cable under the soil and under the gravel that formed the french drain. When I had my door step build fortunately I had the foresight of getting the builder to put some ducting through the base so the fibre could pass through it with no issue. I also removed my drain pipe during the fibre cable install so they could install it up my wall behind the drain pipe. As a result the fibre cable is virtually hidden from view throughout its full length (from the pavement jointing bay right through to my house)
The trick (if possible) is to work out the route in advance and do any prepwork (such as removing my drain pipe) ahead of the install - the installers wont want to stand about on the day whilst you do take off drain pipes etc. You will only get one chance at the install.0 -
As EssexExile says, mine comes in from a pole, just as the copper one did. The fibre is all on poles from the exchange.0
