Probate Office - problem validating will

  • I really don’t know why you are all deflecting.

Most honest decent people don’t want debts or claims made against their name on their deathbed.

Why do you think ALL wills state first, whether they want it listed or not:

    After my debts are paid.

As long as an Executor knows and understands they are liable.

Hello again! Happy to say we finally received the grant in the post today; although we were assured last week that it was on the way, we were all in a “we’ll believe it when we see it” frame of mind.

Trying to cut a long story shortish, it took a further call to the probate office last week as we’d still heard nothing after 3 weeks; the person who took the call had no record on the system of anything that had happened since the start of July, so was insisting nothing could be done until they got the forms from the first witness.

By some miracle, the registrar happened to be monitoring the call, stepped in and took over, and personally sorted everything out.

I just want to thank everyone again for the encouragement and invaluable advice x

Delighted that you've finally got it sorted.  The stress these things cause is unbelievable and I think, from the stories we hear on here, that the Probate office needs a serious kick up the bum.    I don't think they've any comprehension of what this long winded bureaucracy does to the recently bereaved.  It must be a real weight off for you and your Mum. Hope you can now get on with what needs doing without further impediment.
