Good Energy October 30% more than average increase?

Just had the rates for October's increase from Good Energy - could someone confirm I am not going mad and that the Electricity price quoted seems to be 30% more than October prices everywhere else? Please note that these prices INCLUDE the Energy Price Guarantee (but not the £400 discount).

Elec: 49.07 kWh ( standing charge 53.09 p/d )

Gas: 12.45 kWh ( standing charge 32.98 p/d)

Good Energy are exempt from the cap, so they are applying the EPG discount, but that does not mean that the result will be as cheap as it would be with a supplier that is limited by the price cap.
  • True. It looks way, way higher than prices elsewhere - guess I'll be switching!

Arent Good Energy exempt from the price cap?,as per their website:https://www.goodenergy.co.uk/the-energy-price-cap-rise-and-government-response-to-the-energy-crisis/#:~:text=Good%20Energy%20was%20one%20of,affected%20by%20the%20price%20cap.

Weren't you aware of this when you joined them OP,or were they the supplier in place when you moved in?.
Thinking about it logically if the price cap didn't apply to them previously I don't quite understand why it would apply now.
  • They have a really strange way of explaining it on their website-  pointing out that they aren't covered by the cap but also saying that everyone gets the 17p/4.2p discounts.

It is accurate though, everyone gets the benefit of the EPG discount, they just get to set the price it is deducted from as high as they want

Why are they not covered by the cap?
I am with them for my FIT

The suppliers that could prove to OFGEM that they needed to be more expensive (because of doing green energy and things) were given exemptions from the cap.

That's Good Energy, Green Energy UK and Ecotricity I think.

Yes, I read it that way too.  Get the government discount off whatever random price Good Energy decide to set.

They are properly 'green' not just using one of the alternative ways to claim to be green.

It was originally to support green generation (like your FIT) which used to be more expensive, However, it is now one of the cheaper forms so perhaps needs to be looked at again by govt.

Interestingly, Green Energy UK who are similarly exempt from the cap for the same reasons look to be falling in line with general EPG rates (we are waiting on our exact rates).
  • In reply to earlier comment, I moved to Green Energy because they are truly 'green', and I didn't mind paying a bit more for that. HOWEVER the price mark up has now increased so much (30% higher than competitors) that I just can't justify it.

It is a shame because surely green energy is the way forwards, but I can't afford to pay an extra £1200 on what most other (price capped) firms are offering post October.
