Not used them a lot myself but they came in handy a few times.

Same here. It was a good service but the amount of receipts and documents I needed to upload to get a refund varied quite a bit whenever I used it.

Aw poop. That was the main reason I used PayPal for almost everything, rarely needed to use the returns provision but it was a good safety net and very useful on the few occasions I did need it.
Thanks for letting us know, though.0 -
A lot of hobbyist shop sites my OH buys from use PayPal but I’ve never used the returns on us system as whenever something has been obviously SNAD the seller has always arranged the return postage as they should under consumer law. However as Spoonie_turtle says it was a good safety net especially for private sellers or shops playing fast and loose with the law.
I’ll continue using PayPal for eBay as I have eBay protection , but will probably switch to CC for shop purchases now. The only time I’ll have to use PayPal ‘off’ eBay will be for private sellers on places like facebook marketplace, but then I tend to buy only from a few groups where I know most of the sellers now anyway.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. I like using PayPal for as many purchases as I can (using a credit card) - it provides that extra level of protection.
For example, I purchased some cardboard boxes recently from a business (not on eBay). Paid via PayPal. Nothing arrived 2 weeks later, no response from the business either! Hence filed a claim on PayPal and had a refund within 24 hours!
I've never filed a chargeback before, but can't imagine it would be any simpler then PayPal.0 -

I've bought a few items in the past where there was nothing wrong with the item itself, I'd just changed my mind or whatever I'd bought it for wasn't happening any more or whatever, so I'd have to pay for the return.
Only a few quid & I'm sure many wouldn't have bothered but for the sake of a photo & a couple minutes filling details out I got my few quid back.0
