Speaker for use with Echo Dot?

If you have a second Echo dot 3, trying creating a stereo pair. IMO a pair of 'lower speakers' often sounds better and more room filling than a single 'higher end' one.
Also (not directly related) an new Echo Dot 4 (or full Echo) leaves the current Dot 3 available for use elsewhere.
Finally, rumours are there may be a new gen of Echo and Echo Dots released soon which is probably why the current ones are on sale again
£20 for an Echo Dot 4 (or £40 for a pair), or £17 for a second Echo Dot 3 is a really good deal, and I am tempted to add to my collection.0 -
This is my thinking too. If you get a 3rd party speaker, such as the aforementioned Soundcore then that ties up the existing Echo Dot for as long as you're using it with it, the advantage of the getting a new gen Echo Dot or Echo is that you can use the old dot elsewhere in the house for something. The advantage of the Soundcore though is that it's a mobile speaker so when not using it with the Echo you can take it anywhere around the house or even outdoors without it having to be plugged into the mains. Just an aside when using Echo Dots as a stereo pair, works fine when playing from Alexa but not when using as Bluetooth speaker(s).1

Good point (I rarely use Bluetooth)flaneurs_lobster said:Just an aside when using Echo Dots as a stereo pair, works fine when playing from Alexa but not when using as Bluetooth speaker(s).

I got an Echo 4 (the spherical one) on the last Amazon promo event for £17.50 - they are currently on offer at £20 in various retailers. That will give much better sound performance than a 3rd Party speaker up to £50, I would have thought.
I can also recommend a Stereo pair of Echo 3s - I have that in a different room. (These are currently £16-17 in retailers).
The Echo 4 will operate as a stereo bluetooth speaker, but a stereo pair will only play in stereo on content that has come via the "cloud". That can be a radio station, Amazon or Spotify music services or Plex running on a local music server.0 -
Just to clarify, you are referring to Echo Dot 4 (and 3), rather than full Echo devices?Cornucopia said:I got an Echo 4 (the spherical one) on the last Amazon promo event for £17.50 - they are currently on offer at £20 in various retailers. Yes - the full size ones are a fair bit more expensive, I think.k_man said:

So, now they want to sell the new Dot to early adopters for the same price as the full size 4th gen version.shiraz99 said:

It does seem to be a tad expensive for apparently not much of an upgrade on the 4th gen dotGDB2222 said:
