Senior citizens tend not to use Facebook or Twitter.
I would argue that the vast majority of people do not use Facebook or Twitter not just Senior Citizens.Social Media of any description is not a method of communication recognised or used by the majority of people and should not be being used by companies to try to inform their customers of these or major changes.Communication by email or via the customer's account are the only places this information should be placed.

And I was criticised for questioning their competence. I suppose the question is, is this better than BGs we are still working out what your DD should be?
My Octopus Tariff is fixed, but will run out before the end of the six months, when I expect to be on the SVT.0 -

Octopus have said its Flexible rates will be inline with EPG + benefit of 4% standing charge reduction

Thanks for that information from Octopus, bristolleedsfan. It's eyewatering but is only what we were warned to expect.
The chart indicates my present electricity daily standing charge will jump from 24.86 pence now to 50.66 p, or if - 4% to 48.63 p. My present Gas daily standing charge will increase from 26.9 pence now to 28.49, or if - 4% to 27.33 p. The unit kWh rates for both electricity and gas are a little bit lower for me.
The further information from Octopus details, as above, is "Best views and plans at the moment but could change. ..."
Although it is a good indicator, it is still not 'definite.' Overall, I will, as expected once my fixed period ends, be in the same position as everyone else.
Thanks very much for replying, bristolleedsfan.1 -
My DD has been dropped from £175 to £108 by Octopus 🐙 My gas and leccy has been just under £80 per month in summer. I've put it back up to £150. I bought a A++ heat pump tumble dryer, so hopefully it will keep the electricity part down in winter, compared to my condenser type last winter.
I understand unit rates were different then.
This wasn't the way I'd hoped the £400 would work. It seems, to me, that the government are putting £400 over 6 months, in people's bank accounts (not physically, but they don't have pay so much money to Octopus, Eon, etc if they choose not to).. I'd hoped I'd pay £xxx each month and they'd add £67 to my credit balance.
Incidentally I'm well chuffed with the dryer 😁 I've tried it out and it doesn't shoot my usage per day at all

I've just got an e-mail informing me of the new direct debit amount which includes an explanation of the £67 discount.1

What Octopus has failed to do is recalculate my DD to cover the 27% tariff increase: this probably down to the amateur dramatics of The Conservative Party and the late call on the EPG. It follows that what the Lord gives away today might lead to an increased DD request in the new future. I just hope that people are prepared for this to happen.0 -

More importantly - Please check your m3 to kwh calculations-1 -
Got my email with the £67 reduction to DD.
Made a one-off payment of £67 by debit card. Credited immediately.I am a mortgage broker. I was going to say that I struggle to understand why people are finding this so difficult, and then I heard the PM on local radio. To three separate local radio stations she stated unequivocally that no one will pay more than £2500 for their energy for the next 2 years. If the PM doesn’t understand her own Government’s policies, what hope is there for the rest of us?3
