Background first, ASHP just installed, looking to get the best out it now. First person up at 06:00, house empty most days by 08:00 till 13:00.
Currently running it as water all the time and heating at 20c. Heating 6am till 7:30 am and again 16:00 till 21:30. At other times, it's set to 7c. I've had a quick check, water set to 53c for something, not sure if it's water, heat or both. I'll check tomorrow.
Today the house was above 20c so the heating never kicked in 16:00 to 21:30. Still sitting at 19.6c
I'm wondering what others have their systems set to that works for them. Do you set the other temperature higher than 7c?

It depends on your house and how fast it heats/cools and whether you have radiators or ufh.  Most advice is to avoid excessive heating/cooling (setbacks limited to 3-4 degrees) but otoh there's no point in heating your house when you're not there.  ASHPs tend to be more efficient when running steadily but on/off operation isn't as bad as some people make out.  Lower bills are better than a high COP !

You need to run heating and HW as cool as you can.  HW doesn't need to be more than 50 deg.  If you have HW on all the time you might find it comes on every time you use it and interrupts the heating (ASHP only does one thing at a time).

You should use weather compensation for heating.  If you run heating cooler (i.e more efficiently) it will take  longer to heat your house and the schedule you are trying might not work and you may need to start heating earlier.

We run ours on weather compensation, which varies flow temp with outside temp and keeps the house at 20-21 deg when it's on.  It's off 12-5am.  The temp drops a few degrees at night and is back up about 8am. There is someone around in our house most of the time.  If it were empty during the morning like you I'd probably leave it off until midday or so and let it slowly warm up.  Our water runs for a couple of hours in the middle of the day, when it's warmest outside (more efficient) and the heating is likely to be needed less.

It helps if you can do some trials and monitor energy use. What ASHP do you have?
  • Its a Warmflow 11kw Zeno AS02.
Radiator system, all pipes and radiators renewed with the install so that they were correct for the system.

Just checked, hot water is set to 45c with the heating set to 53c.

I'll alter the 7c for the heating, especially with winter coming in and have it coming on a bit earlier. House is still a bit over 18c when I get up in te morning. We don't have a big demand for hot water, as there's no bath and our showers are both electric just now. I'll look to get those changed to mixers sooner rather than later.
I'll have a play with the water heating as well. There's an immerser fitted, but it's switched off.

Monitoring wise, we've got Hive as part of the install, and the smart meter gizmo.

    @Rolandtheroadie

If your heating is on a 53 deg fixed flow that's not going to be the best for efficiency.  Do you know how to change it to weather compensation?  Do you have a manual?

I've got the manual here and have done a little bit of reading on it. To be honest, right now I'm struggling to get it running at all. Called them today but it's a holiday here.
Tonight I switched it off at the isolator near the unit and back on. The heating has come on even although the hot water is tepid.
Heating thermostat has reached temperature, water seems to be heating now.

Point I'm at right now is getting them out to go over the system again, as there's something not right.
