I am trying to close an account with Virgin Money, which is becoming difficult. I sent a secure message to them to ask them to close my account (which is empty) and they messaged back saying I had to call customer services. Four times I have tried, and gave up after holding for over an hour each time. I have also tried the Chat function, but they have repeated their mantra that I have to phone customer services. I do not live near branch so that option is also not possible. Any ideas gratefully received.

If the account is empty, why panic about closing it? I'm not sure.Now a gainfully employed bassist again - WooHoo!1

Write a letter asking them to close it. Less stress.0

I have closed several matured Regular Savers on online banking and the closed accounts can be viewed. I was able to close accounts online before but no longer possible?0

thanks all. I suppose I like to close unused accounts so there are no 'leftovers'. It is not possible to close this account online - they obviously want you to keep it.0

I'm about to switch my Virgin current account to Lloyds, I wonder if they will close my savings account or leave it open?I choose the rooms that I live in with care,
The windows are small and the walls almost bare,
There's only one bed and there's only one prayer;
I listen all night for your step on the stair.0 -

If it is free, keep it open. You never know when it will come in handy. For example, Virgin might one day offer a wow saver or mortgage rate that is only available to existing or longtime customers.0

Did have money in all four though when only had one current account left, way back at 1%1 -
This was a savings account linked to a current account. When I switched the current account to HX, the savings account was left open. The rate is 1.71%, which has now been surpassed by others. I am one of these people who is constantly moving money around currently when a higher rate with different banks is released.1
