I don't watch anything on my phone, screen is too small. They agreed to refund it and cancel any renewal but warned me ... If I subscribe again I might not get the same price :)

AppleTV can be watched on tablet, computer, smart TV etc not just phone.

Have you bought a new device or mobile contract recently? Many come with a free trial of the likes of AppleTV which then auto-renews to fee paying if you accept the offer
  • Ah thanks Dull, I have a new operating system on iPhone but an old device. It must have been a free trial of something, but I didn't get any emails or messages about a payment, not even to junk. I suppose I could have watched it on the laptop ... but I don't and wouldn't. I'm a free view kind of guy, I watch netflix on daughters subscription and have a basic Virgin package on the TV. The card that was debited is one I added to my phone - but its my business account and I know if I did subscribe to anything - even for a free trial - I wouldn't use that card. I added that card (the first ever) to my iPhone wallet 2 days before the charge appeared. Feels like a hell of a coincidence to me.

AppleTV just uses whatever card you use as your default in your AppleID so even if you install AppleTV on a non-Apple device you dont enter payment details but simply log in with AppleID, sign up and it charges to the default card.

Others may do the same but the one advantage of doing free trials etc with things to be paid for via your AppleID (not ApplePay) is that as soon as you sign up you can go into your ID and cancel the renewal so you always get the full free trial and dont have to remember to cancel it before the trial ends.

AppleTV has some good programmes to watch but no way near enough throughput of content to justify their fees as a continuous subscription (in my opinion). Personally buy a bundle of services which happens to inc AppleTV but its an added extra rather than the reason I buy them. If it weren't for that I may do a 1 month subscription every now and then to catch up on what's new.
